I didn't feel right having to leave my car key at the front upon entry and exiting. It was a rental car and I was the only authorize driver. I tried to get the man who checked me in to explain and he rudly told me talk to the owners in the morning. I was also told to leave my room key when I wanted my car key. I also didn't like that when I leave I had to move a sign a cones every single time I left the hotel are enter. I was dressed up a couple times had to move the cones as if I was an employee. I did complain to a younger male employee about this problem and he told he only been working there a few months. The hotel was clean. The phone in the room doesn't work. The front desk keeps the romote control so you have to ask for it. The hotel is in a great location. It was clean place to sleep.

When I walked in the room had a smell I had to buy air freshener. The room was very dusty, so I had to wipe things down and make matters worse. The sheets on the bed one of the bed had stain on it.

Place was simple not fancy but perfect for a short stay and close to beach

It is a budget property for a reason.
Pros-
1. The location - its amazing, close to walgreens, CVS. Very close to south beach. Its at city heart
2. Parking - Free parking at property is the best and can accommodate 10-15. cars
3. Drinks vending machine for drinks to be purchased.
4. Price - the prices are cheap
Cons-
1. Quality of room - The rooms are well below basic. The washroom had no exhaust fan and had a forced open window for ventilation. One of the window facing construction site had no curtains as well wirh extremely dirty windows
2. No water availability - there is no availability of water apart from vending machine.
3. Breakfast - There were just donuts from walmart and coffee with no cutlery
4. Mattress quality and blankets are horrible. Make sure to carry yours.
5. Cleanliness is missing

Neat place. Cold shower at 8 am though. Love the location. Free parking.

This is a pretty cool place to stay. I love the elevator and the eclectic decor. The only issues I had were that there was no TV remote and when I tried to call down to the front desk the telephone didn't work. So I ended up watching shows on my phone - no biggee. The shower was great! I would stay here again.

Old facility, rude check in…dirty room. Staff did allow us to switch rooms but asked us to remake bed (dirty sheets reason for leaving) because housekeeping was gone. We got thru the night but wouldn’t stay here again. No amenities…

I've stayed here before. I return for the parking, the excellent location, interesting and funky art EVERYWHERE, some quite good, some just super kitchy. Be sure to check out the inside of the elevator. Check in with reservation was quick. I was only there for 4 nights and had the old. noisy bed straightened after the first night only, no other housekeeping. Never got wi fi to work and the TV was a few broadcast channels with bad reception, but most people don't go to MB to watch TV. Public areas were kept very clean. Coffee and donuts 8am til noon. It's very low tech with real room keys. The attractions for me are the pure funkiness, 2 blocks to the beach and 2 blocks the other direction to Lincoln Road.
Personally, I find the location ideal. It's generally quiet but if the room above you is occupied, you will have some noise. My room was super simple with outdoor type chairs as the only seating.

I found 3 roaches in 3 days from check in to check out. They could not move our room cause they were fully booked. Day one roach was so big I stepped on it but it could still be alive in there garbage can outside. So gross do NOT stay in room 106 if you happen to choose this place! I guess it only happens in that room according to the staff!!!

The room was great for the price. My room was clean and I enjoyed being close to the action in South Beach

the James Hotel is an inexpensive way to stay one block away from Miami beach and withing walking distance ofthe miami convention center, the rooms are austere and servicable, you should not expect anything more than a bed, and a warm shower, although they do have dounuts and coffee in the art deco inspired lobby. Great deal for a cheap stay

The front desk agents aren’t professional at all. Seems to be family owned. On day 2, we were walking in to the lobby and the agents stopped us and said, “may I help you.? We reserved a queen and got two doubles. One bed was bouncy and the other was still. I thought there were plants growing from the bathroom ceiling, but after Googling, I realized it was mold. The entire hotel and the rooms smelled like bleach and Fabuloso. The location is fabulous and the decide was cute. Would not stay here again.

I didn’t stay because they were not dog friendly!

Coffee was never available in the mornings. There was always an excuse. Other than that place was average for an old property.

Didn't have hot water - barely warm. No coffee available until 8 am. A/C was ineffective.
Not the cleanest of places.
Security/Night person was asleep when i went outside at 6am - I could have come in or out and he wouldn't have known. As a lone female traveller, this was not very reassuring,

The best part of this hotel was the included, easy parking. The staff was nice too.
The mattress wasn’t very comfortable, and I found hairs in my bed sheets (quite a few). There were mosquitos in the room as I woke up with bites- but we are in a tropical climate, so I guess that’s expected.
Good location.

Property and amenities were basic but in a good location. Rooms were adequate but aging. Internet didn't work.

We booked a cruise out of Miami, so we needed to stay at least the night before. Decided to stay 2 nights before to be safe. Our flight ended up 6hrs late, so we didnt arrive until almost 4am. Someone was there at the front desk waiting when we arrived and was super helpful.
The outside and common areas are definitely...eclectic. It's a very interesting vibe to it. The rooms are a little more subdued looking, white walls with a wood accent wall.
Everything was pretty clean, just a couple small areas that could use a touch (ceiling vent, window frames), but nothing to complain about.
Bed was comfy enough, bathroom was fine, love that it had a fridge and microwave.
Coffee and donuts in the morning were a nice treat!
Pretty tough to beat the price and location, along with a nice stay!

Friendly staff. Awesome location. Definitely showing its age, feels like an old-school Key West dive. Not for everyone, but it was in a great spot at a great price.

Lovely hotel. At lot of people said that the hotel had way too much going on with the decor but I very liked it, because it felt unique and different. Really enjoyed my stay here!

This was our second time staying. If your priorities are price, location, and free parking, this is your spot.

Older property but well maintained. Unusual artistic vibe not inconsistent with South Beach. Easy check in kind and helpful staff. Lots of good food options nearby. Extremely convenient to the convention center for our purposes attending Art Basel.

Totally unique hotel, quirky and pleasant.

It's a unique place with an unbeatable location but there were roaches and likely bedbugs...

I loved how close this hotel was to everything. If I wanted to go to a McDonald’s I could or if I wanted to go to a fancy steak place I could literally just walk to it. I didn’t interact with the staff much but they were nice enough the times I did. As for the place itself, it wasn’t the cleanest but it wasn’t the dirtiest either. Just some old stains and such, what you would expect for the price you pay.

Quirky place with lots of art in the lobby. But the rooms were pretty basic. Ok for 1 night. Also it’s in a great location for many things recreation, shopping, dining etc

Great value for the location. Perfect for a budget stay in south beach. Parking very limited and tight but can park in city of Miami lots close by at reasonable rates. Fine for a night or two. It’s a very quirky building. Very basic hotel but would book again for a short stay.

We enjoyed our stay for the location. The room decorations and furniture were sparse, but clean. The bathroom window would not fully close or lock and there was a roof deck directly outside. Someone could have easily climbed into our room. That made me nervous. Overall, however, the location was ideal and the price was right. There is a bike shop and CVS right down the street. Ice cream around the corner. Biking along the beach was extremely easy from this location. The lobby decoration is something to be seen, for sure. Very eclectic. Sadly, the opioid epidemic is very apparent in this part of Miami Beach. Upon arrival, there was a man slumped and barely conscious on a bench directly outside the hotel. We saw this several times, in the hotel environs and elsewhere on our bike rides. This is not necessarily a fault of the hotel, but something of which to be aware.

Website doesn’t do this property justice. Walking distance of beach. White sheets and solid color covers. Parking next door. Walgreen, Ross , clubs , canes and McDonald’s in walking distance. Doesn’t have much amenities but has a lot to do around the area. Fans in the room. Small tv but very spacious room. Definitely my new go to spot. The quiet area of south beach 6 min Uber to the rough but busy area of south beach.

It was great
