The location, in Bowness-on-Windermere, was exceptional with plenty of restaurants in close proximity and being fairly central within the lake district for east travel around daily. The check-in experience was simple enough.

In the interest of pure honesty, there were some gripes: There were cobwebs in the bathroom, of which there is only 1, next to the two downstairs bedrooms; Multiple lights did not work, including for the single room downstairs, 1 of the lounge lights and 2 of the 6 clustered lights in the upstairs bedroom; Parking was finicky at best, we were a two car group and had to park in some interesting spots as the street parking was almost constantly full.

The cottage is lovely, easy to find, quality fittings etc. clean and tidy. Someone has taken time to renovate and present the cottage well. Comfortable space. Would stay again!!!

Guests should use the dishwasher to clean dishes and not just rinse them. Guests not using the facilities provided as asked by property (lazy). Cottage cleaning staff should check dishes and glasses properly as well. Also shower trap was full and wouldn’t drain. We cleaned it for you. Was some noise from premises next door but this was expected as read on previous reviews and didn’t disturb.

The property has great interior design and felt very homely. The spare room/ dressing room was great to get ready and sorted clothes etc.

When we arrive on Thursday afternoon we were greeted with trucks, vans, skip and loads of wood/ bins right outside the cottage. It was a bit of a shock to be honest. The property to the rear of this cottage is having a complete refurb so it was very busy with tradesmen, vans, delivery’s. Anyway, we decided to not let that spoilt anything. However when we entered the cottage it was freezing cold, no warm welcome. It felt like it had been empty for a long time. I started putting our food in the fridge which was absolutely swimming in water. Everything must of been switched off and the freezer above the fridge must have leaked. After mopping that up, I noticed how dirty everything was. Milk stains in the fridge, still a packed of peppers from the last visitors. I cleaned the fridge, added our stuff and then went to sit on the settee which still had hard pasta stuck to it. The cottage just had not been cleaned property before our arrival which was really upsetting!! I will say the bathroom was clean and the beds were clean otherwise I would have had to leave straight away. The next morning - Friday 12th April (my 40th birthday- the reason we booked this place) We were all woken up at 7am to two builders screaming and shouting right outside the window. Swearing about access to the property behind. I honestly thought I was going to be witness to a murder. Then all the builders turned up, vans, trucks, so our whole family was up at 7am in the middle of this building site. Now I appreciate the owner cannot do anything if a property behind is getting work completed BUT we should have been warned! It is not a cheap accommodation and I believe if someone is booking a weekend away then you should be told potential building works are going on and reduce the price as it really did impact our time away. The front door when we arrived had rubbish all outside the front door and wooden bits lent up against the wall. It really did look awful.
