We had a wonderful stay at Villa Sine Tempore Fumarola. The property is unique and full of character, set right on the edge of the spectacular Gravina gorge with lovely views. It’s only about a 10‑minute walk from the centre of Matera, so you’re close to everything but still in a super‑quiet spot.
The host was very friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome from check‑in to check‑out. Breakfast was great – good quality and plenty of choice. The rooms and common areas were spotlessly clean, and we really appreciated how peaceful it was, especially at night. There’s also lots of parking on the street, which is a big plus in Matera.
Two small points for improvement: when we visited, temperatures were close to 40°C and the air conditioning took a while to cool the room down. It did work, but it needed some time on very hot days. Also, it looked as though the common areas/bar might be open for an evening drink, but as we were the only guests, everything was locked up in the evenings. Not a major issue, but something to be aware of if you’re hoping for a late drink on site.

Rustige locatie op 20 minuten wandelen van de sassi. Vanuit de achtertuin zicht op de Gravina! Gratis parking op straat.

This is perfect way to visit Matera.
Park free right outside and taxi in to Matera historic centre.
Great hosts twin sisters have the place perfect.
Great breakfast.
Even better if you like a few cats who are in the Garden only.
Nothing it is value and ideal to park your hire car.
