Thank you to the Callaghan Family for the use of their holiday home!!!
Before we arrived, the communication with RedAwning (the rental company the family use) was excellent. When we arrived, late evening, the house did not disappoint, in fact, it was even better than we hoped and spotless. 5 bedrooms (3 on the ground floor, two on the next) are spacious enough and comfortable, especially with each having their own bathroom. The open plan kitchen/living/dining area was great for our family of 8. We cooked in quite a bit because we were too tired from all the parks to go out - the kitchen has a cooker, microwave and big fridge freezer which is great, especially with the ice maker. There are loads of towels, including pool towels and the washer / dryer was so useful. The highlight for our grandsons was the lovely pool which we paid to have heated, the pool table in the garage and the gaming options. As for the area - the house is within a secure resort 10 minutes from Disney when there are no traffic queues or around 30 minutes normally. There's a huge Walmart 5 minutes up the road which provided all the shopping we needed.
Some extra info:
- The local management company provide 1 dishwasher tablet, one tiny soap and one toilet roll per bathroom, a small washing up liquid and one spare rubbish bag.
- As we were arriving late without a car, we used Instacart to deliver groceries that evening which was a great service and easy to sign up for. We picked up the hire car on day 2 from Alamo in the Car Care Centre close to Disney.
- We used Uber and Lyft while there because of the family doing different things or leaving parks at different time. Both were great but it's worth having both apps as the fares can differ considerably (once Uber were quoting $40 and Lyft 12 for the same trip).
- the front door unlocks via a key pad so no worry about carrying keys.
- garbage disposal is easy - read the instructions provided.
There was nothing we didn't like but here are some things for owners/management company to consider:
The kitchen could do with a few more items: Cooking for 8 with just one standard sauce pan set (just one large pan) was a challenge. An extra large pan would be very useful as would a couple of pizza trays. My wife would have happily bought another saucepan ($11 from Walmart) but she only saw them on the last day. There were slotted serving spoons but not a standard serving spoon so we bought one and left it for the next visitors. We stained one of the t-towels with bbq sauce (sorry) so replaced it with a red one which we put in the cupboard with the spare towels.
The catch which locks the sliding door to the patio may need attention soon - the screws are loose.
