My heart is full of gratitude and admiration for the hose, Frederik. Not only did he rescue me because I was lost; he made sure that I had what I needed to make my stay comfortable and enjoyable. He turned the 500-year-old home that he grew up in into a comfortable home-away-from-home for his guests. It was clean, safe, and quiet. My room had three windows across the back, a king-size bed, a long vanity, a big walk-in shower, toilet in a separate space, and a place to hang clothes. The open-beamed ceilings added to the historical charm as did the surprise found in every room. My room had a sandal attached to the ceiling because it was brother Johanes' room; he wore sandals every day. Breakfasts were a treat. There was a selection of bread, fruit, yogurt, eggs cooked to guest's choice, and fresh squeezed orange juice. Historical evidence such as original fireplaces, free standing stove, and bas reliefs can be found in the house. Frederik is willing to share the history of Bruges and his home and point out sites to visit in Bruges. I really appreciate the history talks and the individual care he gave all his guests.

I had a delightful stay at this beautiful historic home. The host was wonderful, offering good suggestions and made the most delicious breakfast. While the home is not air conditioned, it was very comfortable. (I was there in August with temps in the low 80s F.) The location is superb--right in the heart of all you want to see yet it is not in a noisy area. If you cannot climb stairs, this would not be the place for you, but it is a fabulous property!
I really liked it, but if it is super hot, you may want to get a place with AC. Also, if you have bad knees, there are stairs required to go to your room.
