We enjoyed our stay at Colmena Hotel CDMX Centro and were very happy to have chosen it for our time in Mexico City. The location is excellent—right in the historic center, just a short walk from the Zócalo and surrounded by an extraordinary concentration of the city’s history, architecture, art, and everyday life.
One of the things we appreciated most was how easily we could walk from the hotel to so many remarkable places, including the Metropolitan Cathedral, Templo Mayor and Museo del Templo Mayor, Palacio Nacional, Palacio de Bellas Artes, Museo Nacional de Arte (MUNAL), Museo Mural Diego Rivera, and Museo del Estanquillo, among many other museums, historic buildings, plazas, and restaurants. The Zócalo/Tenochtitlan Metro station is also just a seven-minute walk away. For anyone who enjoys discovering a city on foot and immersing themselves in its cultural life, the location is truly ideal.
What makes Colmena particularly special, however, is the atmosphere of the hotel itself. Despite being in the middle of such a busy and vibrant part of Mexico City, the moment you enter, you leave much of the noise and intensity of the city behind. The hotel feels quiet, intimate, and surprisingly secluded. Its warmth and simplicity reminded us more of a traditional Mexican home than a conventional hotel. It has a genuinely welcoming and personal character, and we especially enjoyed returning there after long days of exploring the city.
The staff was friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay, contributing greatly to the relaxed and hospitable atmosphere. We also enjoyed the breakfast. We were very happy with our stay and would gladly return to Colmena on a future visit to Mexico City.

It was in a great location, with inviting and comfortable common spaces
The windows all opened onto a shared common courtyard. Not really a problem or something they could help, but it wasn’t the most private setup

Fantastic location. Very close to the Zocalo and the Fan fest. Great breakfast Big room High cielings. Bathroom - Hot shower- very clean. Double bed on the small size but reasonably comfortable. Staff seemed happy. Nice breakfast/lounge area with TV available after breakfast.
Small detail - our room was next to kitchen. I know the staff tried to keep the noise down but it did wake me. The sound of the doorbell through the night.
6 / 10Average·May 2025
The room was a good size, but the space was under-utilised. There was plenty of room for a table and chairs which would have been wonderful, and for a small cost made our stay much more enjoyable. The room was cleaned and made up daily. The location was close to the centre of the city, making most things accessible on foot. The bed was very comfortable and the shower and bathroom were good.
The breakfast was not great, it was difficult to know what anything was, nothing was labelled and there seemed to be no English spoken by the staff, which didn’t help. As many guests were English speaking it would be helpful to have labels in English and Spanish so everyone would understand what was on offer. It was also very crowded and difficult to find anywhere to sit to eat. The room was generous, but only had one bedside light and it would have been very useful to have power points at each side if the bed, even if it was just a power board, for charging phones etc. We were on the 3rd floor, it was lovely, but it was a lot of stairs to climb with a suitcase and every time we went to our room. As mentioned, the room was very spacious, but the space was not utilized, it was just a big empty space. There is a small desk and one chair against the wall, but the empty space would have been very inviting if there had been a small table and 2 chairs instead of the desk.
