Instead of a few days I had no other choice than extending for two weeks, helping out as a volunteer. It’s a little paradise, just a few meters away from the lakeside. The atmosphere of the hostel and Ohrid are amazing, delicious food and drinks everywhere, and the most interesting and welcoming people.
At the hostel you're offered affordable sunset boat tours, wine tasting, rent bikes and explore Ohrid, hang out with warmhearted people from all around the world or simply relax and soak up the charm of this special place on earth.
But what I loved most were the people. The Macedonians are incredibly kind and helpful — if you need anything, they’ll do whatever they can to help and make you feel like home.
A huge thank you to Vesna & Nino for creating such a warm and beautiful place. I wholeheartedly recommend Blue Lake Hostel to anyone visiting Ohrid. Will definitely be back next year! 🩷 xo sari

It’s rare to find a hostel like this. The atmosphere and the people made it such a wonderful place, right next to the dreamlike lake. It was so easy to just enjoy life there. Hope to be back :)

OK, let me explain. My last morning, my toothbrush cap accidentally fell into a recently used toilet. I could have just left it, maybe flushed it. However, due to the fact that Vesna and Nino (the owners) were so kind, the staff so helpful, the other guests were generally nice and respectful, and knowing that North Macedonian plumbing can be delicate that might end up costing Blue Lake Hostel hundreds or thousands to fix if I did nothing, I simply reached in, grabbed it, threw it away, then thoroughly decontaminated my hands. If THAT does not let you know how special a place this is, then I do not know what will. Stay with confidence and relax.
Had to leave.
