The best part about this cabin is the surrounding area itself... a perfect "off the grid" getaway complete with a pond & kayaks/SUP to go with it! Thank you Karen - you were a wonderful hostess & we so appreciate your hospitality!

We loved our time in the cabin and wished we could have stayed longer! We were visiting from the west coast and wanted to have a camping-like experience with our 3 and 5 year old girls, and this place was perfect! The pond is amazing with lots of frogs and dragonflies, and was so fun to kayak and paddle board on. We also had a great time walking the trails. One day we even discovered a huge turtle on the steps leading to the cabin. My kids named it Scoot and considered it the best part of our adventure. Although the cabin feels super private you are not far from Stowe which is nice. We can't wait to return and make more family memories!

We were at the cabin this past weekend and really enjoyed out time. The cabin is just rustic and remote enough to experience the Vermont wilderness while staying within striking distance of downtown Stowe. The owners were helpful and accommodating. At one point the toilet required some maintenance, and they were over in a matter of minutes to fix it for us. The pond is a great addition as well! Would recommend to all.

Cabin worked out great for what we used it for.

Karen and Eric provide a wonderful place to stay. We showed up and there was a little mix up (completely our fault) in that we hadn't realized we'd be walking up to cabin. Karen was kind and quick to reply and explained there was a sled to bring up our stuff. It was honestly such a great time. They take very good care of the cabin. It has a certain charm to it- warm, cozy, and off the grid. I definitely would recommend renting this cabin from the Nicholsons!! Overall a very pleasant experience! Thank you so much for allowing us to stay!!!

Fantastic place if you're looking for a rustic, off the grid getaway. The location is beautiful, and the place is very cozy. Super close to all the shops and restaurants in Stowe, but when you're at the cabin you feel like you're miles away from anything. Only thing we weren't expecting is how dark the cabin is on the inside, even in the day (we had to light candles even in the middle of the day). This is mostly because the cabin is surrounded by thick pine trees, but make sure to pack a lantern or extra candles. Overall highly recommended! Karen the owner even gave us a jump start when our battery went dead!

Stayed at the cottage 12/24 and 12/25. Great cabin, great location, great trails in the woods and around the pond, and nice and toasty. Close to downtown and other amenities Stowe has to offer. Owners were attentive to any questions, etc. Would be an awesome summer vacation spot as well.

My wife and I and 2 dogs were lucky to arrive when the leaves were close to peak and the weather was sunny and close to 80 F and also a day before it was scheduled to be rainy and windy.
A dirt path led to a clearing near the pond where we parked. Benches can be seen near the pond. To the right there was a dirt road leading up to the cabin overlooking the pond. We initially opted to walking up the shorter steeper route consisting of stone steps and rails made of branches. While unpacking the car with our hands full we chose the longer, less steep, dirt road to go back and forth.
While unpacking we had the opportunity to meet Jeff ,Karen's husband when he came to check on the cabin. With no other renters they were kind enough to allow us to check-in and check-out whenever we liked. Coming from NY it was nice to listen to the quiet. The gas lights were nice but utilized candles more when we were awake because being a warm day the gas lights gave off a lot of heat. There were a lot of hiking trails to avail of but unfortunately we didn't have time to explore as much as we would've liked. The cabin and area is as described.
We only stayed 2 nights so we were able to get by with cleaning ourselves with body and facial wipes. Remember, there aren't any showers, but Karen provided some sources in town to wash if needed.
For a sit down breakfast that is close by I would really recommend the Green Goddess Cafe. As a suggestion be there before 9:45am and be sure to place your order first, then sit down and wait for your order to be called. Lines form very quickly because anyone who enters has to stand on line to place their order. While we were eating the line peaked at 15 people.
The one thing that was a little unnerving is what I'll refer to as the strange dog, this is before I knew who's dog it was. I wake up one morning, with daylight approaching, I hear a dog in the distance barking. It's not to bad from a distance but it's barking is getting louder and louder but I don't see anything when I look out the window of the cabin. I go about doing my morning routine. Take the dogs out then walk down the path to the car where I feed them. After I fed them I turn and finally see the barking dog around 2 car lengths away barking at us. I didn't know whose dog it was at the time or whether it was friendly or not so I put my 2 dogs in the car. After a few minutes it stopped barking and just walked away.

The cabin is located in a great part of Vermont. This is a great location to go to get away from the big city. This gives you a chance to get out and enjoy the outdoors! If we ever go back to Vermont we will definitely be looking to stay here again.

This is the perfect retreat for someone who is looking for solitude and peace, and understands that it's not full service or the Ritz. That's not to say it's not comfortable. Au contraire. It's quite comfortable and cozy. Meals by candlelight, a warm fire in the cast iron (propane fired) stove or a quiet night on the porch with a book (I used a petzl headlamp) is just what the doctor ordered. I especially enjoyed a shower in the trees right off the porch with the solar heated water bladder. Refreshing! Perfection in the woods. Amazing setting.
Your hosts are amazing and incredibly helpful. If you're lucky you'll get a visit from super cuddly, Percy, the owners spaniel.

This cabin was a breath of fresh air amidst the fast-paced technology-centered routine of everyday life. The days we spent swimming, kayaking, and relaxing here felt in many ways, like the first time we'd been able to breathe and think clearly in months. It is hard not to look out at the placid surface of the pond, flanked by rustling conifers, crickets chirping, and not feel at peace. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful experience with us. P.S. Percolator coffee is delicious!

I decided to go way out of my element for what I wanted to do and where to stay for a few vacation days for myself and the family and went with the "roughing it" theme at the cabin. This was a lovely compromise between a hotel resort room which I wanted and the pitching a tent my husband wanted in the Stowe VT area. Overall we were all very pleased with the accommodations and the adventure that went with staying in a rustic cabin without running water, no electricity and a compost toilet. First of all the toilet was much better than I could have imagined -- clean and non-smelly. The gas lamps and gas fireplace were very charming and kept us warm. The bedding was comfortable enough and great comforters and pillows were provided. The cabin was cozy enough to keep us all together but still allow space away either in the above loft or the bunk room if anyone needed time out to read a book or some privacy. During our two nights we didn't go into town to shower but the kids did splash in the pond and the Nicholsons provided some showering suggestions.
The kids had a great time out on the private and safe pond in the kayaks and catching frogs and catfish in the pond. We grilled on the gas barbecue and ate at pond side on the nice picnic table. Later in the evenings we had a great time roasting sausages over a fire on the pit and the smores came later.
The cabin was comfortable enough to relax in on a rainy day but we were close enough to the tourist attractions of Waterbury and Stowe that we took advantage of a short drive to enjoy the Ben and Jerrys ice cream factory, Cold Hollow Apple Cider mill and the Bike path in Stowe.
This was a great opportunity for us to put away the electronics and TV for the kids and the cell phone, Facebook and emails for my husband and I. We had fun playing cards and Jenga by candlelight with the kids and I can't ever recalling spending so much consecutive time outdoors with the family all working and having fun together. That in itself was priceless.
We would definitely encourage someone reading about this rustic vacation getaway who would normally overlook this type of opportunity to give it a chance and realize that there can be a happy compromise between becoming one with nature and not giving up on culture and civilization.
We will definitely be back -- probably fall although for the right people a winter getaway at the cabin would be a different but marvelous type of adventure all of its own.

My family including two kids had a terrific time staying at this cabin, which is so much more than simply a cabin, since it has its own pond and hiking trails, all in total privacy. It's like having your own state park. Also, the owners are great people. We'll be going back there.

The cabin, the woods, the town, but first and foremost, the cabin and the surrounding woods, absolutely magical. We were there during some very cold nights and the gas stove kept the cabin cozy and warm. We hope to go back some day.
Thank you for everything.

The listing is very accurate. The property was clean and well maintained, and the owners were very pleasant and helpful. We found in this cabin and its surrounding everything we looked for. It was even better because we changed all our plans we had and simply stayed there almost the whole 5 days. We wanted to explore near mountains and waterfalls, but we could not help and rather enjoyed solitude and quietness the cabin offers. In addition we could enjoy private pond for everyday kayaking, forest for light hiking, and every evening sitting at fire pit and gazing at starry night you hardly see in high populated and illuminated areas. We did not miss any nearby activities, attractions, or restaurants. We had everything we needed in the cabin and around. We came back home absolutely relaxed. I would recommend this property anyone looking for relax in a quiet and solitude place, and I'm sure we will come back again.

The cabin, nestled high on a cliff, is a place of serenity, solitude, reflection, relaxation and where we gained family connection. The natural beauty surrounds you in this place. The cabin's post and beams, twigs that line and shape it, sits alone in the wilderness and reminds us of the power of simplicity, the importance of peace in our lives and the connection of family. Our tired muscles ache from a day of skiing but there is abundant joy to be found as I sat on the porch and listened to the quiet.
We will return to the cabin again, maybe I'll come alone to do some writing. I am home here. Thank you so much for sharing this paradise.

We will always remember our stay - fantastic! We loved the subtle way you added conveniences to the cabin, pond, and trails without disturbing the natural beauty of the place. I've never seen so many stars - a crystal clear view of them is alone worth a return trip. We'll be back next summer and are excited about a winter stay as well!

This cabin, and its pond, is completely private. You can't see another house, or a road, or any lights, from the cabin or the pond. The cabin, the pond, and the trails are full of subtle touches that don't disturb the natural environment, but that make things more convenient, like bridges and stepping stones over water, and gravel in the pond so that you can get into it without walking through weeds and reeds. The cabin itself is very clean and tight. The description and photos give an accurate idea of the property. We were delighted.
