Close to centre, clean bedding but the entire place needs cleaning and decorating

The property had not been cleaned for a while with thick layers of dust on all surfaces. The small yard at the back was filled with cigarette nubs The carpets are desperate to be cleaned and the entire place needs painting due to the dirty and scuffed walls from top to bottom

Disappointed

Nice bedding

We have given a low rating due to an incident which occurred on our first night at the property. My husband had just stepped out of the shower when the glass light shade fell from the ceiling on to his head causing nasty cuts. The room was plunged into darkness with glass shards and broken metal scattered on the floor and in the bath. It was apparent that the heavy glass and evidently rusty metal lampshade was simply hanging from the light bulb fitting which remained in place but was cracked and missing a piece. We messaged the 24 hour customer line sending photos both of my husband's injuries and the strewn glass and broken light fitting. The following morning we received a reply to say sorry to hear this but that it was an accident and accidents happen! Not satisfied with this response we contacted them again and this time they replied that the light fitting must have been hit with force as it had been fitted correctly. Given the height of the ceiling this implied that it had been done deliberately since it couldn't be reached to have knocked it even accidentally. Not once did the property company express concern over my husband's injuries, and, although they did offer to refund our second night if we no longer wished to stay there, finding alternative accommodation for our family at such short notice would have been extremely difficult. The following day they did replace the light with an enclosed fitting which was far more appropriate for a bathroom setting. My daughter carefully cleared up the debris that night so that we were able to use the bathroom even though there was no light. We are just thankful that our 2 year old granddaughter was not standing there when the light fitting fell. I have delayed posting this review in the hope that the property company would take responsibility for this safety failure. Needless to say we will not be booking with this company again when we visit family in Scarborough.
