The Peacock at Rowsley

A beautiful hotel. Everything is wonderful you can’t fault anything at all.

It was a nice friendly hotel. Good location for sight seeing, though just off a busy road, but quiet nonetheless. The staff were excellent.

I thought from the listings (and cost) that this would be more upmarket, with lovely antiques and great interior design. The carpeted communal areas were a bit grubby and the antiques were pretty basic, and the dining room lacked character - we would have preferred to eat in the bar. It just lacked that chic boutique feel, though the bar area was warm, cosy and atmospheric. The food was a huge let down. A worse than terrible fish cake for lunch in the bar, and dinner was horribly overpriced. It looked stunning, but the food, although reasonably good, did not live up to the appearance/expectations and the portions were tiny. My portion of venison would have been under 100 gm for a price tag of £43. If it had been £26-£28 that would have been fine. Similarly my husband's starter of agnolotti at £16 he got three tiny agnolotti. This is good food but not Michelin star food, and horribly overpriced.

Food good and the type I expected

Small bathroom, lack of easy chair, the “attic” location of the room. No lift I personally would not rate the hotel as 4*

I was disappointed with the value for money. There was a small box of chocolates in the room, but no sparkling water. The tea and coffee were fine but no hot chocolate or even a biscuit. The bathroom toiletries were not of the quality I would expect for the price for the room paid.
