First the good bits: Both our "hosts" were very friendly and helpful, also both spoke excellent English (which some guests may find helpful). The location of the apartment is perfect: a plethora of brasseries, shops and restaurants are within easy walking disctance; a small supermarket is less than 3 minutes away, a superb bakery on place de Vosges etc. We used the washing machine, detergent was provided; there is a large fridge with freezer, an oven, toaster etc.
Also, the house appears to be very safe. Internet works.
Now for the downsides: The apartment´s location unfortunately also means extremely loud nights, a brightly lit bedroom (the streetlights are right in front of the windows; the white curtains do not help), the bed was way too soft for us (if you like soft matresses, you will be in heaven) and the pillows too big and hard (again: these are our impressions, yours may vary). There is no a/c, just one (very stylish) fan, which was no match for the sweltering heatwave we encountered. The staircase leading up to the second floor is antique and downright dangerous (think odd angles, steps of different height and width), there is no elevator. The bathroom is minuscule, but the toilet is separate. Be prepared for an interesting experience.
