We were incredibly lucky to get Outshot Barn. We thought we had reserved in one of the central hotels in Hay on Wye for a big conference weekend - and we discovered two nights before that we weren't. So we were thrilled to find something relatively close to Hay ( 4 or 5 miles away), quiet, comfortable, and super clean. We arrived late at night - it's a bit hard to find although instructions were excellent -but there's no phone connection between the road and the house , so we had to retreat to reread. However, the next morning we woke up to a glorious day, a glorious view and a flock of geese waddling up the hillside. It was magical.
But then on our second morning I was putting stuff in the car and saw something move - and nearly leapt out of my skin - it was the most enormous, hairy pig I have ever seen, with two companions (well fenced in I might add and perfectly fragrant !). Turns out that it was half wild boar. Seemingly curious and benign. Loved it and his offspring !
this is an unfair charge here -it was a sociable weekend with quite a lot of partying and the taxi situation in Hay is not great. So...designated driver required if you are out at night.

Everything was perfect, a great place to get away and relax in nature. Just what was needed, walking the smallholding with the owner and meeting the animals was a bonus.
