Suite 201 has 2 bedrooms/2 baths with a full kitchen and living room. A lovely bay window with cushions to overlook the beautiful Main Street, and the 2nd bedroom has a balcony looking up to Bench Street.
Ulysses Suites has just been completed inside the historic J. G. Schmohl building in the heart of downtown Galena, located at 213 to 217 S. Main Street. The location is walking distance to all the best restaurants and shops. We have 7 suites and a beautiful lobby that are modern and luxurious, with lots of historical character and texture as a nod to its previous existence as the Grant Hotel from 1895 to 1933. Suite 201 is located on the 2nd floor.
The space
The J. G. Schmohl building was built around 1850. From 1895 to 1932, Mr. Schmohl ran the Grant Hotel in this building. We have loving renovated this well-deserved building with a nod to the Grant Hotel from the turn of the century. We have 3 two bedroom/2 bath suites, 2 one bedroom/1 bath suites and 2 studios. Having a special family/friend gathering? You can rent the entire 7 suites that will accommodate 21 people. Ulysses Suites main entrance is at 214 S. Bench Street and is also accessible between 213 and 215 S. Main Street. Ulysses Suites has been awarded the Galena Excellence in Historic Preservation Designation in 2020.

The property was lovely, clean, and most importantly, in a perfect location for Galena shopping. The many stairs might be a problem for some visitors, but I would gladly climb them for the pleasures of the comfortable lodgings and wonderful location.

This suite (201) was a fantastic find. The building was right on Main Street , with two entrances. One door opened onto Main Street and the other onto Bench street . There was some reserved parking spots in a lot on Bench street , which we used, we just had to send the host a picture of our car. The unit was very clean and cozy. Comfortable and nicely decorated. The kitchen was well appointed with dishes , pans, utensils, coffee pot. There was coffee for us to use, along with sugar/ creamer. This host makes a big effort to make you feel welcome with all the extras she has there for you to use. The bathroom had shampoo/ conditioner/ body wash in shower, Extra toilet paper , Kleenex, and little notions that you find in high end hotels. ( sewing kit, shoe wipes, shower cap, makeup removal wipes, makeup wash cloth,bath salts, eye masks for sleep, bath robes) . The beds were comfortable but my only issue was the very flat pillow. Honestly, that is the only thing I would change . The unit is very quiet, we didn’t hear anyone else while there. The host was easy to communicate with and very responsive. Overall , this unit is a hidden gem and we will definitely stay again .
