Our room had pretty textured walls and beautiful artwork. The furnishings were also high quality. Its a 3 minute walk to the beach, and within a few minutes drive of a mini-mart, ice cream place, and some restaurants. I couldn't figure out when checkout time was, but another guest told me 11am. Also the doors have # codes on them so you can check in without seeing anyone. But the insides of the doors don't have slide locks, so we were worried about someone being able to enter if they found out the code.

They did a great job renovating the Tar Heel motel. Clean, comfortable rooms. Bring K-cups with you if you are a big coffee drinker and don’t pack heavy. This is the best of old school Outer Banks, reminds me of when my parents would take us to OBX in the 70’s staying at the Beacon.

Absolutely nothing bad about this motel, it’s obviously not a luxurious beach hotel but it gets the job done. it’s right next to a beach access and in an amazing place if you’re looking to do a lot of activities. Hotel was clean, didn’t even speak to staff during my stay, as i said no complaints whatsoever!
