This is not your five-star resort. It is clean, cute, and more than fine for a stay. We chose this property due to the location. We weren't in Key West for the typical Key West stuff. I wanted to be close to the port for the Dry Tortugas ferry. The resort is a bit outdated, but well maintained. The rooms are layers of paint and bathrooms are older colors, so it doesn't look great, but it is very clean. The bathroom was very small but served its purpose just fine.
I really did like the water view, hammock and small private patio. There aren't many places with these things. Now the water, it is on the water but I wouldn't have swum in it. Still, it was nice to sit and have coffee in the morning and watch the many birds.
I did love that we could book activities and rent a golf cart on site!
The restaurant has great drinks but a limited menu. Breakfast, don't go looking for anything great. That was the least liked part. Very limited continental breakfast. Waffles were from the freezer, you can tell. No breakfast meats or eggs. Just fruits, yogurts, cereal and waffles. Also, if you want coffee early in the am, you should plan ahead. We walked to the gas station as we needed to leave at 6am and there was no coffee yet.
Grounds aren't a gorgeous resort, but just fine for the in and out that we were.
I would say, don't go with high expectations but enjoy what it offers and the uniqueness!
