Honestly the highlight of our entire trip. One night and it exceeded every single expectation we had.
The kaiseki dinner was absolutely brilliant. The in-room private onsen facing the lake was just incredible. And the staff were something else, so kind, so attentive, so genuinely invested in making sure we had the best time. One night was nowhere near enough but they made every moment of it count.
100% recommended. Do not even think twice about it.

We absolutely loved our stay at Kasuitei Ooya. The whole vibe and decor of the ryokan (room and building overall) was very calming and captivating. The breakfast and dinner provided was phenomenal and everything we ate was fresh.
The beds were tad bit less comfy then what we have previously experienced with japanese futons but rest assured, they are still very comfortable to sleep on.
The staff were all super friendly,helpful and very accomodating to our needs.
We are very greatful for this experience and would certainly stay here again if given the opportunity.

My stay here was a highlight of my trip. The rooftop onsen was amazing and such a cool and unique experience. I also appreciated it is a tattoo friendly onsen so I was actually able to use it! Which was very exciting. The staff were incredible and so welcoming, friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to make this day enjoyable and special. I also splurged and got the in-room open air bath and I have to say it was totally worth it! Highly recommend. One thing that I didn't understand ahead of time about staying in a ryokan or traditional Japanese hotel is that there will be a specific person who is your room attendant. When you get to the hotel they will escort you to your room. I had never had this happen before so I was a little confused at first but it's a very kind gesture. And they made it so special by having my name posted on a printed paper outside of the door with a little welcome message in japanese. They have thought of every detail.
