The hotel room was a good size and had two balconies to use which were a good useable size. The view was out to the mighty Mekong River, which flowed quietly past. With the mountains as a backdrop it was a pleasant view. The beds were great as were the furnishing in the room, which was more like an apartment. The kitchen was new - in fact the whole hotel looked recently built and in great shape. The wi-fi was great as were the air con units, so top marks for many things, including the bathroom as it had a full deep bath. Towels were great size and quality too. But....

The hotel is isolated on the very outskirts of town and accessed via a mud and gravel side street lined with houses which were very run down. Walking into town was not an option as the road was rural in appearance and rundown with bad footpaths. There were no cafes or shops within walking distance that I could see, so calling a taxi using the local LOCA app was the only option. There was a well rated restaurant close by but walking there wasn't something I was keen on doing. The hotel, as mentioned, looked quite new but was lacking in those final touches to make it great. Bathroom was clean....but could have been cleaner. The sofa was old and a little grubby, the kitchen was well equiped with new appliances, but no coffee or tea or milk / juice / alcohol and just basic water bottles and no plates or cutlery. No problem if there was shop or cafe close to grab those things, but theres not. I mention the lack of shops because if the hotel set up a mini shop down in reception because it is so remote, it could ease many of these issues and would be a great help to all the guests. So take what you want before you go or be prepared to write a list and grab it all when you're out. If you are willing to forgive a few little let downs, Sokview has the potential to be a really really nice place to stay. It just needs those little extra touches and you'll see past the terrible road and the isolated location because of that view and the peace and quiet. Room was spacious and kitchen was great. What I loved was the balcony. It had shade which was good in the heat and the door had a bug-net installed so we could keep it open even during the night. It was lovely to fell asleep listening all the noises from the river, the cicadas, fishermans and birds.

I liked and disliked the location equally, if it wouldn't have been so hot I wouldn't have minded that it was little bit far from everything. Also, our room door had a lock with a numbercode which was great (no need for a physical key) but we came home one night quite late and the outer door (without a numbercodelock) was locked so we couldn't get in. We had to knock to the door quite sometime before the staff came to let us in. We felt bad for waking them but no-one had informed us how to deal in the situation like this.

The Property has a calm and peaceful location with great views over the Mekong from the balcony. The flat is well-equipped and comfortable with internet TV and cooking facilities. Very safe and secure. While located out of town, the local Uber and tuktuks are about 2 euros to the night market.

Initially I had trouble using my card to pay on arrival and it took until the next day before they got their card reader sorted out. You should be aware that the property is about 2.5kms into town along a busy road. Sokview rents motor scooters and has free use of bikes so its not a huge problem but a long walk. I had no hot water for my stay which could be improved.

The room looks nice, the bathroom was spacious

The room was not cleaned daily. The towels were not replaced daily. There were days when the complementary water was not topped up. The entrance is very slippery when the floor is wet, it rained the whole week that I was there. The mud trail from the place to the main road was wet and slippery everyday, slippers have to be washed after every going out for every meal. There are very few places to eat nearby. I practically ate at the same shop for the entire stay.
