The Inn on the Olde Homestead

This is a beautiful spot. The lady who runs it bought, restored and really made this place beautiful. She goes to great pains to make everything historic and period (even going beyond period, there are books everywhere, most late 1890s-1920s but I found one book from the late 1700s!). We came during August so it was too hot to use the fireplace but it looked beautiful. Also, outside of the building in the parking area in the back, there are three other buildings. Another house, where I assume she lives, a historic resale shop and a small restaurant. We didn't have enough time to try their other businesses but as a history buff, I want to go back just to do those things. I am not a morning person so I slept in a bit but the owner makes breakfast personally for the guests. My wife went out and joined the group and everyone shared stories and really enjoyed the morning.

The only slight knock I would give this is that being period meant no air conditioning and in mid-August that makes it very hot. There also weren't fans in the rooms. I feel like for comfort alone, people would likely be okay with the lack of period authenticity. The bathroom, with a nice wide standing shower and upgraded sink, is not period at all but it is a wonderful comfort item to have.

Breakfast was great. Nice quiet location even with a busy street.

Kari was extremely attentive to our stay and we enjoyed sitting under the grapevines sipping wine and nibbling cheeses.

It is a 19th century homestead that has been updated and lovingly converted into a B&B. The gracious host--who operates the nearby antiques shop--has furnished it with lots of period furniture, and everywhere you look there are fascinating details and curios to contemplate.
