The accommodation and the communication with the owner were quite different from what I have experienced in many other countries, including the UK. I am a Genius Level 3 traveller – a very experienced guest. I stayed in this accommodation for the most nights (a full week), unlike most guests who usually come only for one night.
My main reason for choosing this place was its proximity to QM University and the fact that it had a small kitchen where I could cook. Among the main advantages are the good location near the metro and small shops, the city centre, and the convenient connection to Stansted Airport.
The communication with the owner is very strange. He refuses everything you kindly ask for – for example, he does not provide a payment confirmation, even though Booking.com clearly states that the accommodation must issue proof of payment. I even managed to meet him in person (unplanned). But no any help! It seems that the person running this accommodation does not care about guests at all; even a simple greeting or a thank‑you seems extremely bothersome to him. There are many messages from previous years about unsuitable pillows, dirt in the kitchen (behind the fridge), and unbearable light at night in room no. 2 coming from a very bright corridor lamp. There are also many complaints about squeaking doors in all rooms/WC. Despite these extremely disturbing issues, which prevent normal sleep especially on the first night after travelling, they could be fixed within a few minutes. Neither the owner nor the cleaning lady is interested. After several polite requests, the owner suggested that I should find another accommodation and that he would refund the difference. But I no longer had time to deal with that. So I had to fix small but very important things myself: I had to buy a new pillow, I had to cover the large glass panel above the door with black garbage bags to block the corridor light, and I bought spray oil to fix the squeaking doors. My neighbours used it too, so finally the whole flat became quiet. In the kitchen, although it is possible to cook, there is terrible dirt in the cutlery drawers and behind the fridge. In the room, the drawers had water inside and pieces of broken plastic stuffed in them. I had to clean it myself and move items like the hairdryer and straightener somewhere else to have space for my belongings. There is not even a single hook to hang your clothes. I had to hang my clothes on the back of the TV.
During my stay, people came to the door late evening trying to get inside because the owner forgot to send them an instruction.
