It was near the event I was attending. The room I got was a good size, renovated, good layout and equipped with a mini fridge and safety deposit box. Most of the staff were very good - the doormen were helpful with calling for taxis, the waiters were attentive and Housekeeping was very efficient.
It is a very old hotel and it has not been maintained very well. There was a very pronounced unpleasant smell in the hallways. There was mold on the wall in my room. Not the fault of housekeeping - this kind of issue needs more than just cleaning. The tiny elevator was vintage, and very slow. The window type aircon had a broken dial for thermostat control, so I could not adjust the fan speed, which was stuck on high. I had requested for late check-out to 1:00PM on two occassions but the front desk personnel were slow to confirm. In the end, I decided to catch an earlier ferry, so the late check-out was not needed at all. But having to wait at reception for an answer to a simple request was annoying.
