Responsive host, but a 91-degree home forced us to leave after one night, followed by weeks of frustration over the refu
The property itself had a lot of potential and the outdoor/pool area was nice. The host was also responsive when we reached out and did try to find solutions once we explained the issues we were having.
Unfortunately, this stay turned into a very disappointing experience.
We booked the property from September 4–7 for almost $1,400. After only one night, the air conditioning was not functioning properly and the temperature inside the home reached approximately 91 degrees. We were traveling with our family, including our 3-year-old daughter, and the heat became unbearable. We ultimately had to leave the property and find somewhere else to stay.
The host was responsive and apologetic, which I do want to acknowledge. However, fans and a portable A/C were offered as temporary solutions, and the HVAC technician was not available that evening. We also discovered that the refrigerator was not cooling properly.
The host specifically told us through the Booking.com messages that we would be reimbursed for the nights we could not stay. We left the property that night and did not return.
The refund process afterward was extremely frustrating. I initially received only $400. Over the next approximately three weeks, I had to make multiple calls regarding the refund. I was repeatedly informed that the host, not Booking.com, was responsible for approving the refund amount. I finally received a refund of $550 on September 19, despite having paid almost $1,400 and only being able to use the property for one night.
I understand that mechanical issues can happen, and I appreciate that the host responded quickly during the situation. However, working air conditioning in South Florida is a basic necessity, particularly when paying this much for a short stay. Having to leave after one night and then spend weeks trying to resolve the refund made the overall experience extremely disappointing.
