The cultural aspect.
The room light is all or nothing. Would be great to have reading light on both side of the bed for easy access at night.

Excellent. Great location, just a few minutes’ walk to Broken Bridge at West Lake. It is very convenient to get to Leifeng Pagoda and Lingyin Temple. The hotel’s museum shows the history of this property. This is a hotel full of stories. The hotel staff can communicate with me fluently and provide fantastic service. The rooms are extremely comfortable. Well‑worth experiencing.

The hotel is very aesthetic and beautiful, which makes sense since many people in China like to take photos while on vacation. The room was great. The food at breakfast was fine. The hotel is centrally located, walking distance from West Lake and near a creative cocktail bar called Late Market.
The overall service was very underwhelming. I had requested ahead of time to be able to check in early, and was told in writing it would not be a problem. When I showed up, they pretended that they had not agreed to it and told me it would not be possible. I had requested a second floor room, and we were placed on the first floor. Overall, the whole experience at the hotel was strange. They had different cards for power in the room and the door, which I saw confused many other guests (people kept locking themselves out). I saw other guests complaining about various issues. My opinion is that at a hotel of this high price point, and a relatively expensive hotel for Hangzhou, an early check in and other issues like that should be easily accomodated.
