Welcome to AvoCottage, a bespoke home by Bamboo Dwellings. Our whimsical and award-winning renovated 1920s Californian Cottage with an Avocado tree shaded backyard is designed to give you the same sense of wonder and excitement you get at Disneyland without feeling like you’re walking through a gift shop. It’s fun, immersive, and family-friendly with a touch of Disney magic in every room.

ABOUT OUR GAME ROOM/BEDROOM 5
Our Game Room can be a private space/bedroom with a very comfortable Queen sized couch bed. We also have an Armoire for clothing storage. You will be provided linen and pillows in the Armoire to make the bed yourself. The space is a detached carriage house but is very comfortable with windows, insulation, and climate control. You will need to walk outside, cross the patio to the shared bathroom in the main house (or studio). Please be aware that California generally has excellent weather and rarely rains except for the Spring months, please bear this in mind if you are counting on using it as a 5th bedroom.
ABOUT OUR POOL
Our cowboy-style tank pool is filtered (no jets), 22 inches deep, and 10 feet in diameter (perfect for 6–7 adults). We aim to maintain the water at around 85°F. Note: Temperatures may vary with the seasons. Please handle the pool cover with care. Damage may result in a replacement fee of $800.
PET FEE
Well-behaved dogs are welcome with prior approval. $150 per pet, per day. Dogs only (no cats or other animals). Pets are not allowed on furniture or linens—extra $50 fee applies for excess hair. If upholstery cleaning is required, this incurs a $500 expense. Please bring your own bedding if needed. Use provided bags for waste; turf clean-up incurs a $50 fee. Unauthorized pets will result in additional charges.
EV CHARGING
An electric vehicle charging station is available on-site for guest use. $25 per charge applies.
EARLY CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT
Early check-in and late check-out may be available upon request and are subject to availability. Additional fees may apply due to enhanced cleaning protocols and third-party scheduling.
SMOKING POLICY/FIRE RISK
Due to high fire risk in our region, smoking is strictly prohibited both indoors and outdoors. There may be times when fire pit use is restricted due to elevated fire danger.
PARTY POLICY
Small daytime gatherings may be allowed on a case-by-case basis with prior approval. An additional cleaning fee of $250 applies. Events must conclude by 10 PM, may not exceed 30 people, and must follow all house rules.
Note: Late-night parties and unapproved events are strictly prohibited. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for disturbances or violations.
To help ensure a peaceful stay for everyone, we have security cameras at the front of the house to monitor guest numbers and pets; we also have a privacy-compliant noise sensor (NoiseAware) that tracks volume levels (but does not record audio).
Please note that an additional rental agreement is required after booking to ensure the house rules are clearly understood and acknowledged.
NEIGHBORHOOD
AvoCottage is in Heninger Park, one of Santa Ana’s oldest and most character-filled neighborhoods with historic Craftsman homes, palm-lined streets, colorful murals, and a strong community feel, just south of Downtown Santa Ana. Our home has even won an award for Historic Architectural Preservation. As with any established, close-knit neighborhood, homes and yards reflect a range of styles and stages of upkeep which is part of its authentic charm. As a mom, I only host guests in places I’d feel comfortable bringing my own kids.

Everything was all prepared and beautiful. They have everything well thought out and so fun. The pans we cooked eggs in, had to be scrubbed that was tricky, not sure what pans they are but it was difficult getting them all cleaned real well. It is a beautiful welcoming house we would love to return to one day.

This house is so much fun! I can’t say enough great things about it. Sarah was an absolutely amazing host! It’s everything a large family or group would need and want! We traveled with 7 adults and 4 children ages 1-9. The kids’ bedroom was perfect with the bunks and trundle bed. The house also has a small crib that was perfect for our youngest grandchild. The backyard is a haven for the kids and “big” kids. Watching movies outside, BBQing, playing in the pool, or sitting by the fire, it’s all there. The kitchen is stocked with all the pans and utensils you’ll need to make meals. A large table for everyone and a high chair. There’s even a s’mores kit available for purchase. Walmart was quick to deliver the groceries I ordered. The house is pretty close to everything, but you have to factor in traffic. Even still, you’re only 30 minutes or less from beaches, Disneyland, museums, etc. There’s so much to say about this house. The cottage even has two spaces with their own entrance for privacy. It really was the perfect place to spend our first big family vacation together. Our next trip to California will definitely be spent in a Bamboo Dwelling .
