We loved the olde worldly feel of the place complete with tales of ghosts and smugglers. Our room was spacious with an oh so comfortable bed. Super breakfast and lots of tips from the lovely lady who served us at breakfast. The staff were all friendly and amicable and we enjoyed sharing our stories of our travels and stays along The South Downs Way with Richard 😉

Bathroom was a tight squeeze and due to fixed shower screen I had to an actually get in the bath to reach the plug and taps but was no great hardship!

The location was perfect and the room met expectations. We enjoyed what the hotel had to offer, and were automatically given a dinner reservation which suited us.

The staff were generally very professional and courteous with the exception of the Manager who we found difficult. My friends and I had booked as pet (dog) owners, yet he complained that the dogs were noisy and he had received complaints. Whilst we understood why this would be a problem, my dog had barked when the pub closed and she could hear people leaving the bar (outside) and no later. I wasn't sure how to respond to his complaint as this was the next morning, other than to apologise. I questioned whether (the pub being a walkers/ramblers destination and dogs potentially outnumbering people), this was worth making a point in the manner he did, especially as we booked and paid the surcharge for the dogs staying with us. We certainly didn't want to cause upset with the other guests but didn't feel it was necessary to make us feel we had not done enough to mitigate the issue.
