A view of Lake Toya from our room as you entered and to see our private onsen in our room was priceless, A perfect ending for our visit to Hokkaido. It was the ultimate relaxation. The room was large, provided many amenities, and the shiso soda was the first for us and I miss having it. The private onsen is a luxury but so worth every penny. We could go in and relax several times a day. I was going to try the public onsen but ran into to many people and I would have to wait to shower off before using it so I went back to my private onsen. The ryokan has many areas you can use and provides comfort. The town is there if you want things to do but we just wanted to soak in the area and relax.
The highlight of a ryokan are the meals and the meals were "Oishi desu"! It was out of this world and we ate every bite! We did order cocktails to the dinners.
You can explore the islands in the lake but we decided not to do it this time. Hopefully we will return and have the chance to experience it. We drove around the lake and stopped at sights that we wanted to see. Highly recommend Lake Hill Farm for their gelato and pizza!
The boys wanted to smoke their cigars and there is an outside patio which they could have used but there was no seating. A sitting area would be nice. There is a smoking box inside but outside would be better.

We had a wonderful time at this hotel. Definitely a special place if you are celebrating something like a birthday or anniversary. The views of the lake from both the lobby and our room was stunning. We opted for the included breakfast and dinner (picked the Japanese style menus). The food was phenomenal, some of the best I have had while traveling and very memorable. Its a little away from the town area so I would recommend coming by rental car but they do offer a shuttle to go watch the fireworks. Superb service from the staff. We would definitely like to stay here again some day.
We really didn't like the automatic lights in the bathroom area. It was not possible to turn them off so if someone gets up to use the bathroom it lights up the whole room waking everyone up. I know its probably a safety feature but I wish they had a manual override.

This hotel was one of the most expensive stays during our trip (around £369 per night), yet the service was shockingly poor.
On Booking.com, the hotel clearly states that luggage storage is available. However, when we checked out, the staff refused to store our luggage, even temporarily. We simply wanted to leave our bags for a short time and take a walk nearby, which is a completely normal request and something we have never been refused by any hotel before.
There were two staff members present: an elderly woman who spoke no English at all, and a younger staff member whose English was very limited and unclear, making communication difficult and uncomfortable. The younger staff member repeatedly stated that it was “impossible” to store our luggage because only guests who were checking in were allowed to do so, and also said that the hotel did not have space to store our bags as a new group of guests was about to arrive for check-in. These restrictions were never mentioned on Booking, and in any case, managing space during check-in is an internal operational matter, not something that should be imposed on guests—especially when luggage storage is explicitly stated.
The elderly staff member’s attitude was even more problematic. She kept avoiding the issue with irrelevant comments and illogical arguments. When our friend (who speaks fluent Japanese and studied in Japan) showed her the Booking page stating luggage storage was available, and explained clearly that we would return shortly to collect our bags, she still refused. She even questioned us by saying things like “There’s nowhere to walk around here anyway, where are you going?”, which is completely inappropriate.
She then claimed that the only place to store luggage was at the onsen town bus station, and when we asked whether luggage storage there was guaranteed, she replied “No.
