Nice touches like heating on in advance of our arrival so it was cosy

Excellent accommodation meet all our expectations of a traditional cottage. Great location and views and just a nice drive into Ballycastle. Lovely and peaceful location.

The Good.
The cottage is cute and quirky. Nice display of collectables throughout the accommodation which gave the place an added charm (photographs of the owners are a little disconcerting however as is the half used this and half used that- it almost felt like the owners had literally just stepped out for a minute which might put some people off but which we felt gave it a home from home appeal). Well enough equipped accommodation overall and aside from a little dust around the myriad of trinkets and a couple of hairpins found on the floor, the cottage was clean. Parking is secure and plentiful.
Visually, the setting is lovely. It is rural and picturesque.with a nice array of wildlife around the property. We saw rabbits, and pheasant on the lane and a few field mice and a cute looking rat around the property grounds. As animal lovers who also live in the sticks, this definitely appealed.
The property is located a 10 minute drive from the lovely Ballycastle. Here we enjoyed Nice shops, good food, a lovely quiet beach and calm enough sea to swim in. We will definitely be returning to Ballycastle, if not this property.
BE WARNED. This may be the only occupied property on the lane, aside from the owners lodge on the far side of the garden (which they use) but at the end of this lane is a very busy farm. All manner of farming vehicles used this single lane passed the cottage innumerable times in both directions from sunrise to dark and often in convoy. Not only did we suffer farm vehicle noise but also farm work- Literally all day and night!!! The farmer actually called one evening to say they'd be working late so to expect noise. This noise went on until 1:30am!!!
Speaking of the lane- a single track, the last section of which is rock to either side of a prominent hump. NOT suitable for regular cars unless you want to suffer damage as we did. We even tried shifting the rocks from the central hump but the farm vehicles repeatedly churned them up again.
Midges! Thousands!!! Obviously a known problem as on hand in the cottage was midge spray and citronella sticks to burn. Didn't stop my partner from getting eaten alive daily.
After leaving, the owner text both my partner and I accusing us of having dogs on the sofa and the beds which was 'not allowed'- citing the presence of dog hairs. She was seeking 'proposals for redress' (money??!!) (Booking.com have copies of the messages sent). This is supposedly a dog friendly cottage. It is Summer, our dogs cast like mad. There is hair literally everywhere. The dogs were never on the beds but were on the sofa on our covers AS WAS SPECIFIED in the info provided. We left the cottage clean and tidy- residual dog hair cannot be avoided. A poor enough holiday ruined by accusations! We travel a lot. This is the first place we did not award 10/10 and is the only place we'd never return to.
We see the owner has replied. Advice re dogs on sofa 'please bring your own covers for the sofa' if suspecting it will be an issue. Open items included food items in the glass cupboard and in the freezer.
