Nothing!!!
Extremely disappointing experience — would not recommend.
Unfortunately, our stay at this cottage was a complete disaster from beginning to end.
When we arrived, someone came to the door, did not greet us or welcome us in any way, and simply kept saying “four, four” before walking away. We understood that they were trying to tell us we could not enter before 4 PM. The complete lack of basic communication and the rude, dismissive attitude were extremely unprofessional and made us feel unwelcome from the moment we arrived.
After check-in, things became much worse. The cottage lost both electricity and running water. We were travelling with our 4-year-old child, and without water we could not properly use the toilet, shower, or cook. Without electricity, we also could not safely keep the food we had brought refrigerated.
We tried to wait for the situation to improve. Hydro initially estimated that power would return around 9 PM, but when we checked again around 7 PM, the restoration time kept being pushed back. At that point, with a young child and no electricity or running water, we had no reasonable option but to leave around 7 PM after spending only approximately three hours at the property.
The cottage itself was also not clean, and the people we dealt with were rude and completely unhelpful throughout the experience.
I understand that a power outage may be outside the property’s control. However, cleanliness, communication, basic courtesy, and how you handle guests during an emergency are absolutely within your control.
What makes this situation even more unacceptable is what happened afterward. It has now been FIVE DAYS since we requested a refund, and the property has not responded to us or even to Booking.com regarding our refund request. After we were forced to leave because the property had no electricity or running water, the very least we expected was professional communication and a prompt response. Instead, we have simply been ignored.
