The host was kind and helpful, although he seemed a little uncomfortable communicating in English. We had arranged to leave for the airport at 4:30 AM, and he drove us there in his own car, which was convenient for such an early departure.
The accommodation is very close to the airport, only about a 4-minute drive away, so the location can be practical for an overnight stay before an early flight.
The bed linen in our room was clean. For very low-budget travellers or backpackers who simply need somewhere to sleep for a few hours close to the airport, it can serve its purpose.
We arrived at around 8 PM and had difficulty finding the accommodation because we could not see the name of the property displayed anywhere. The street is poorly lit and there are several dogs around the area. Some of them reacted to the sound of our suitcases, which made arriving at night quite uncomfortable.
We eventually entered a courtyard where several chained dogs started barking when they saw our flashlight. Someone then came out and explained that the accommodation was upstairs in the attic. The whole arrival experience felt very basic and quite different from what we had expected from a Booking.com property.
We stayed in the “Moorea” room. There are several rooms with island-themed names such as Bora Bora. Our room had no proper window, and the sound insulation was extremely poor. The noise of 50cc scooters could be heard throughout the night, and at around 3 AM other guests arrived and were very loud. Sound travels throughout the entire house, so we did not sleep particularly well.
There was a fan in the room, but it was too noisy for us to use while sleeping.
There was no hot water available on our floor, so we would have had to go downstairs to another area to take a hot shower. We preferred taking a cold shower rather than walking through the property every time.
The bathroom also felt more like a private bathroom in someone's home than a bathroom prepared for paying guests, and unfortunately the toilet was not properly clean when we arrived.
At 4:30 AM we had arranged to meet the host for our airport transfer, but the main door was locked from the outside. We did not want to use the rear exit because of the dogs, so we had difficulty getting out and getting the host's attention. This was stressful when we had an international flight to catch.
The host eventually drove us to the airport, but the transfer cost 1,500 XPF for approximately a four-minute drive.
