First the food prepared by chef Ronald was incredible! And truly the highlight of the week.
The service recieved by Emily was nothing short of amazing
And our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and always happy to assist us when we had queries
It's unfortunate, but because the property is so private, your experience is partly shaped by other guests and some can be surprisingly obnoxious and rude. Future guests should note this as the blessing and curse of such an intimate space: the same closeness that makes it special can work against you if you're sharing it with the wrong crowd.
My only real criticism is that we'd have appreciated more guidance on the drive up to the lodge. Given its location, the final stretch to the top is tough going , especially without a 4x4 or a sedan with 4-wheel drive and it gets considerably harder in the rain, with wild animals close by along the way.
If you're planning a visit, here's my advice:
- Avoid driving up in the rain after dark
- Arrive as early in the day as possible
- Be prepared for how intimate the lodge is, particularly if other guests are staying
There are no free-roaming big cats on site, you'll see them at the nearby sanctuary, which is an incredible experience, but it's not quite the same as seeing them outside a fence
To be clear, this isn't a negative review of the lodge itself. It's context I wish I'd had beforehand, simply to help manage expectations.

The place was very nice and staff as well, however it was a challenge to get to the lodge, we were lost and drove for almost 2hrs from the main gate looking for Gwede lodge. I suggest they send the actual location to the lodge not the notes they gave us.
If actual live location was sent upon confirmation of the bookings not the notes we would have arrived on time

It was a very comfortable room, great bed and spacious bathroom. Emily and Jacqueline were really great and the chef Donald made some really delicious meals. Great place and will definitely be back.
