Welcome to the Mermaid Cottage!
This wonderful 3 bedroom, 3 bath beach cottage is located in the beautiful Cottage Retreat Community of Destin Florida. We invite you and your family to stay in our wonderful cottage for a week in paradise! If you like sugar-white sand, emerald waters and swaying palms, you will love this community.
The cottages in Cottage Retreat are quaint reminders of days gone by with front porches, and bright decorative colors, with the entire community built on a cul-de-sac.
Our cottage comes equipped with all of the comforts of home and possibly a few more! This home has 3 bedrooms, beautifully furnished and all the comforts of home. This home features a wrap-around deck on the first floor, and the second floor has a balcony for enjoying fresh evening breezes. The beach walkover is a short 2-minute stroll to the sugar white sand and emerald waters of the Gulf. Our home is in a perfect location. You will want to return year after year!
What to do in Destin besides enjoy our beaches! Should you wish to explore what the local area has to offer, you'll find an abundance of choices. Sidewalks line scenic 98 for walking, running or bike riding. We are a short 2-mile drive to the Silver Sands mall to the West, or luxury shopping at Destin Commons to the East. Kenny D's, The Crab Trap, and Pompano Joe's are all within walking distance to Cayenne Cottage. We encourage you to leave menus of your favorite restaurants when you come.
For evening entertainment, Destin is known for some wonderfully upscale eateries, as well as your regular fare. Friendly night life and nearby state of the art movie theater.
Do you like to shop? The Silver Sands Outlet Mall is a vacation in its own right for shoppers you will have access to over 100 stores, including, Polo Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers, Eddie Bauer, Liz Claiborne, Tommy Hilfiger, Lenox, Nike and Reebok - just to name a few. When you need to pause for nourishment choose from Panera Bread, Cheeseburger in Paradise or Carrabba's Italian Grill.
More great shopping can be found at the Destin Commons outdoor mall. Enjoy such great stores as Abercrombie & Fitch, Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic, Belk, Books-A-Million & Maui Nix Surf Shop to rattle off a few. The house was very nice, the kitchen was well equipped, and the home was very family and pet friendly. The beds were also very comfortable. The beach access is probably the best I have experienced (without staying directly on the beach) in my 10 years of staying in Destin. Parking, however, was challenging because it is limited to 2 spaces, with the option to purchase additional passes, which we did for our golf cart rental. My sister decided to rent a golf cart last minute, but had to park her primary vehicle with our parents, who were camping in Destin as well. Because there was no visitor parking for our parents, we had to transport them to and from our rental on the few nights we cooked dinner for the family. I gave 5 stars for everything except cleanliness. I deducted a star because the checkout requirements included sweeping all the floors and wiping down all the counters, which was unusual considering we pay a cleaning fee. We always keep host homes tidy during the weeks we rent, and understand the need to start the washing machine, run the dishwasher, and take out all the trash prior to checkout. However, packing up and checking out by 10:00 is rushed enough, and being required to sweep the house or be charged a fine added to our stress that day. If parking wasn’t so challenging, I would stay here again.

Everything about our stay at the Mermaid Cottage was wonderful! The layout of the home is great, plenty of room for 4 adults and 3 kids. The stroll to the beach and pool was so easy. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. Beds were great too! We loved it and look forward to planning another trip!
