About this house rental
Poggelow Castle was built in 1848 in the English Tudor style to plans by the architect Friedrich Hitzig, a pupil of Schinkel, and was formerly owned by the well-known von Bassewitz family. Between 1996 and 2004, it underwent extensive restoration, and in 2015 the entire façade was restored. Today, the castle is a listed building and provides the ideal setting for a sophisticated holiday in the countryside or for celebrations of all kinds.
From the castle terrace and balcony, you can enjoy views of a small lake. There is ample space for up to 20 people across a total of seven cosily furnished apartments, each equipped with its own kitchenette. There is also a main kitchen for all guests. The castle is therefore ideal for group trips or a holiday with the extended family. On the ground floor, there is a large dining room which can be used for celebrations or meetings. In the basement, you’ll find a sauna, solarium and fitness room, amongst other facilities. There’s also a billiards room, a large covered terrace and a 32 m² heated, covered swimming pool on the grounds. Here, you can enjoy your holiday with the extended family.
The property is ideal as a wedding venue. Celebrate your very own fairytale wedding here in the castle. A church in Jördenstorf is available for the church wedding ceremony. Afterwards, you can enjoy your wedding reception in a private setting.
Renovation work was carried out in the fitness and billiards rooms in 2017.
The castle is let as a single unit only.
Poggelow lies on the northern edge of Mecklenburg Switzerland in an idyllic rural setting, surrounded by woods and fields – ideal for a horse ride. Why not bring your four-legged friend along! There is space for up to 4 horses in the stable at the castle. The castle is very easily accessible via the A19 and A20 motorways. The journey from Hamburg or Berlin takes around 2.5 hours. It is just under an hour’s drive to the Baltic Sea coast.
Costs for energy, heating oil and water are to be paid on site according to consumption. An advance payment for these must be made on arrival. Final cleaning is also payable on site. Security deposit for youth groups: 2,000 EUR.
Please note that arrival on Sundays and public holidays is not possible.

The photos of this property do not do it justice. The apartments are all so different and individual, there must be one to suit all. The pool is great, a good size to swim and play in, not being too deep. The extras, pool table, table tennis, gym, sauna, bar area where an added bonus and well equipped. The more communal areas, like the dining room and countless sitting rooms were all lovely. The grounds were well kept and also the barbecue area. The terrace was under cover and big enough to sit all 17 of us comfortably. It was very well equipped in the kitchen and there were plenty of crockery, cutlery and glasses so the dishwasher was used a lot!! Wi-fi was mostly good, but the mobile phone signal was a little patchy. Just be aware that there are no local shops and transport is a must. We had a great time.
