About this house rental

Summary:

The Gaslight is named for the 1960s Manhattan café where musicians, artists and poets came to be heard, and its walls carry archival photographs of Dylan, Springsteen, Hendrix, Kerouac and Warhol. The mid-century house sits on three hillside acres above Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley. Swing in a hammock over the town below, soak in the six-person hot tub, take turns in the seasonal cowboy tubs (closed November through March), then pick up the guitar by the fire. Bring your own verse.

The Space:

The Gaslight takes its name from a famous 1960s café and performing arts venue in Manhattan, a meeting place for musicians, artists and poets. The home honors that history with archival photography of notable Gaslight performers, including Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Jimi Hendrix, Jack Kerouac and Andy Warhol, set against clean, modern design. The mid-century modern house sits on three hillside acres overlooking Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley, with a king primary and a twin room in the main house and a detached queen casita with its own bathroom and workspace. It works for a creative work trip, a couple's getaway or a small group of friends. Open the accordion doors, cue up the Sonos, and start something.

At sunset, follow the path to the four hammocks for open desert views over the town below. The cowboy tubs, a 6-foot private tub and two smaller ones, offer a rustic dip in warm months; they are not an in-ground pool and are unavailable November through March. The six-person hot tub is the place to be after dark. There is also outdoor dining, a propane BBQ, a 5-foot custom propane fire pit, outdoor games, an outdoor TV and an outdoor shower. The decorative outdoor fireplace is not functional. The property is not fully fenced.

-Living Area-

The main living area is bright and open, with tall ceilings, modern furnishings and oversized windows that bring the desert inside. Large accordion doors connect the room to the patio. Archival photography and bold pops of color give the home personality, an in-ceiling sound system sets the soundtrack, and a guitar is provided for evenings in.

-Kitchen and Dining-

The modern kitchen is stocked with cookware, spices, olive oil, a blender and the essentials for cooking comfortably. The coffee setup includes a Keurig machine and locally roasted Joshua Tree Coffee Company beans. Eat inside, or take dinner out to the covered patio for a sunset meal.

The second bedroom has two twin beds in an open-concept setup, good for friends or kids.
