About this house rental

Summary:

Tucked high on a scenic hillside just minutes from Dunsborough, The Roo House combines contemporary design with the rustic charm of the South West. Surrounded by beautifully maintained native gardens and expansive lawns, this pet-friendly retreat offers tranquil privacy and views across bushland. Whether you're relaxing by the fireplace, enjoying the alfresco dining area, or strolling through the garden paths, this is where nature and comfort meet.

The Space:

Set across 6.14 acres of pristine native gardens and bushland, The Roo House is a striking fusion of South West charm and modern architectural elegance, just a five-minute drive from the town-centre. In the right wing, the heart of the home unfolds into a spacious open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area. This beautifully designed space is filled with natural light, thanks to soaring ceilings, skylights, and expansive windows that frame peaceful views of the surrounding bushland. Sliding and bi-fold doors connect the indoors seamlessly to the alfresco deck, creating a calm and airy atmosphere throughout.

The living area features generous, plush seating perfect for gathering with the group, while the adjacent dining space comfortably hosts long, leisurely meals. A slow-combustion fireplace by the dining table and a second in the lounge add warmth and ambience during cooler months. The chef’s kitchen is fully equipped with stone benchtops, a 5-burner stainless steel cooktop, large fridge, and a Miele dishwasher, all centred around a spacious island bench perfect for family-style prep, entertaining, or morning coffee rituals.

The king-sized primary bedroom sits off this main area, offering private verandah access, a walk-in robe, and a stylish ensuite with dual vanities and heated towel rails. Two additional bedrooms in this wing—one with a queen bed and the other with a double—share a main bathroom. A secondary lounge with a TV provides a cosy space for movie nights or quiet downtime.

In the left wing, two queen bedrooms overlook the surrounding bushland and open directly onto the verandah. One of these bedrooms features its own ensuite and a large balcony, while the other is served by a nearby family bathroom with a bathtub.

Outdoors, a wide wraparound verandah gives way to a north-facing alfresco haven nestled among the trees. This 36 sqm deck is complete with café blinds, fairy lights, and a generous lounge and dining setting—ideal for long lunches, sunset wines, or starry evening BBQs. Children and pets have room to roam in the expansive gardens, and (availabe in the winter months) the fire pit offers a cosy spot to gather. Laundry facilities are available and parking is ample with a secure driveway space.

Please note that there is no enclosed area, and pets must not be left unattended at any time in accordance with local council regulations. A starter pack of wood is provided during the winter months only (June – August). This includes kindling, firelighters, matches, and wood. Axes are not supplied due to safety reasons. Additional wood may be purchased from a nearby fuel station or hardware store.

Guest Access:

During your stay, you and your group will have the entire house to yourselves. Please make yourselves at home!

The Neighborhood:

Just 10 minutes from the house, Meelup Beach is one of WA’s most beautiful bays. Its calm turquoise water is perfect for swimming, paddleboarding or picnicking beneath the peppermint trees. Arrive early for a morning dip followed by coffee at nearby Meelup Farmhouse.

Hike the Cape to Cape Track from Cape Naturaliste to Sugarloaf Rock. Start just a short drive from the house at Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and enjoy one of the most scenic sections of the Cape to Cape Track. The walk to Sugarloaf Rock offers dramatic coastal cliffs, whale spotting in season, and incredible photo ops—best done at golden hour.

Great location and spacious accommodation. Great to have so many bathrooms and the open plan living. Would be nice in winter so that the lawns are green and being able to have a fire outside as the photos suggested. A shame there were no shady parking areas in the summertime.
