This inn is exceptional!! I stayed here with my brother in order to explore Tsumago and Magome by way of the Nakasendo Trail. The experience was great from the first communication on Booking. I asked about getting to the inn from the train station and the host Tommy sent me a whole detailed and organized doc with lots of tips and directions, plus descriptions of the meals we could reserve to have at the inn. This ended up being an amazing option since restaurants close early, and it was lovely to cook up some wagyu steak and fresh local veggies at home. Plus a good bottle of wine for purchase. Now about this amazing house! Wow. Just gorgeous. An old-world kominka updated wth modern kitchen and stunning bathroom, and beautiful sliding windows and doors. All the original wood flooring and beams intact and enhanced with lovely lighting everywhere. I loved the tatami room and especially loved the zen room where they had set out a small desk to practice your brush lettering! Tommy told us about local artisans that have contributed to the renovation. I was able to unwind immediately here, and enjoyed sitting in the rocking chairs and listening to the sounds of the forest outside, sipping on green tea that they provided. I felt like I had really gotten the Japanese experience I always hoped for traveling all the way to the deep valleys in Kiso. I appreciated all the details, the immaculately clean bathroom and toilets, the tidy kitchen, and all the communication with Tommy over Whatsapp about how to get around. I would 100% travel back here just to stay here again but for more than two days!

A beautifully renovated home right on the nakasendo. Perfect in every way! The DIY was thoughtfully prepped and exactly what you need after a day of hiking the trail.

I loved the restored feel of the house. It was a treasure to explore.
