The location is in the heart of the interesting Alfama neighbourhood, with its Fado music tradition, restaurants and proximity to the castle and centre. The accommodation lies in a quiet courtyard off the street, yet within a very short walk to the classic No 28 tram route. The owners Else and Rui have produced comprehensive guidance sheets on access and local information. They responded promptly on the phone when I had a couple of issues. The apartment is spacious, with 2 internal double bedrooms with borrowed daylight and natural ventilation. we liked the juliet balcony opening to views of the courtyard and a glimpse of the sea.
The apartment has great character and potential, not quite realised. The common entrance door and lock to the building needs replacement. The steep stairs to the first floor apartment are OK but need caution. The two ring electric hotplate is a bit temperamental and needs instructions. Utensils are limited for cooking; scissors and more than one teaspoon are essential additions which are necessary. The furniture is worn or extra-basic in places ( for instance the sofa bed in the living area is stained and uncomfortable and side table slopes). The floors could be cleaner. I raise these aspects which could easily be remedied and which if implemented would make a great improvement.

It had all the essentials
The place was small and had distinct sewer odor in the bathroom. The beds very extremely uncomfortable. The customer service was in personal and had us wait outside in heat for over 30 minutes after reservation despite several attempts to get into the facility.
