Location was perfect and central to the University and to my daughter's apartment. Kitchen was well supplied, although it could use a spatula for cooking eggs and omelettes. Large beds were a bonus, and a full-size fridge was great. Down a few stairs to get to the apartment, but even with 3 large and heavy suitcases, it was navigable. No scarcity of hot water, which was wonderful.
Lots of good places to get coffee, groceries, quick meals. Walkable to the Royal Mile and to the New Town.
Although there was plenty of hot water, the shower was a bit of a contortion act. The shower is a corner cubicle, not very large (and we aren't large people), and the shower door didn't seal on the hinge side or the bottom. In fact, there is a rather large gap, which meant you really couldn't stand under the shower spray (or even direct the shower head), without getting the floor completely soaked. So the only option was to take the hand-held shower head, stand in the corner, rinse yourself down, replace the handheld shower head so it faced the wall, then stand in the cold to lather up. I think extending the seal on the bottom of the door would do a lot to alleviate that, but not all because of the hinge side.
The wi-fi was spotty, especially during the week. I don't know if it was a weaker signal, or if the draw on the system during the work day in the city, affected it. We tried multiple times to reboot the router, moved it to different locations within the apartment, re-boot our devices, etc. I did contact the landlord, who told us to do all that, be we had already done it multiple times. The only time we had consistent wi-fi was late at night, or on the weekend.
Understandably in the city, there will be street noise. However, it seemed like trash was collected on the street nightly, late at night, right outside the apartment. With a pub across the street, the Friday night crowd was pretty raucous. My daughter was woken several times in the night by the noise.

The location is great, the place is nice and communication and instructions for access were clear
It’s always going to be expensive finding accommodation for a family of five for Edinburgh Fringe but we would have hoped at the price we paid that everything would be perfect. The internet is extremely patchy which is very frustrating on a city break where you expect to make plans and buy tickets online. The pull out sofa bed was uncomfortable and the shower needs a towel rail and a new holder for the shower head. Not normally one to complain but I feel all of the above are worth pointing out.
