Price doesn’t meet expectations
We were disappointed with our stay overall. For the price, the quality and cleanliness of the home did not meet expectations. The house has a lot of space and potential, but it clearly needs more consistent maintenance and a much more thorough deep cleaning.
The location was a real positive: it was an easy, convenient walk to both beach access and Duck proper. However, with check-in not until 5:00 p.m. and checkout at 10:00 a.m., the short rental window made it even more frustrating to arrive to a home that did not feel properly prepared for guests.
There were spider webs throughout the property, including the outdoor shower, decks, and stairs. The decks were also covered in bird droppings, pine needles, and cobwebs. Inside, we found dirty dishes put away in the cupboards, and the floors, baseboards, and toilets all appeared to need significant cleaning. It felt as though the maid service was doing only a basic surface-level clean rather than preparing the house thoroughly for new guests.
Several maintenance and condition issues also affected our comfort. One bedroom’s mattress cover was covered in bodily fluids; management did replace it, but it should never have been missed before check-in. The downstairs area was very hot, and the two fans provided were heavily coated in dust and needed extensive cleaning by my father and husband before they could be used. There were also many flies coming into the downstairs area. Maintenance did come by and attempt to address the issue, which we appreciated.
The furniture and appliances also showed considerable wear. The couches were in poor condition and stained. The refrigerator was old, did not close properly, and had an unpleasant odor.
There were positives: we loved the upstairs playroom, and the home offered plenty of space for our group. We also enjoyed the collection of books, games, and older movies. Management was responsive, likely because we had to stay in frequent contact throughout the visit.
Ultimately, this could be a wonderful beach house with more care. It has great features, a convenient location, and a lot of potential, but it needs serious attention to cleaning, furnishings, appliances, and routine maintenance before the price feels justified.

Not as advertised. Wouldn’t recommend.
The vicinity of the beach is the best thing about this house.
Not as advertised. It was dirty when we got there, spiderwebs and dead bugs in all the inside window sills. Drain in the main shower is broken, yard is completely overgrown with weeds. Half the gets in the hot tub are broken, pool lights don’t work, cigarette butts all over the driveway. 2 of the TVs are broken. Screens missing on the screened in porch. The deck was so covered in bird poop and yard debris it was unusable.
Reported all of this multiple times through text and phone calls, even sent photos and was told that maintenance was too busy to fix any of these problems. After complaining MULTIPLE times we were refunded the cleaning fee - which honestly was too little too late. VERY frustrating and disappointing after saving up all year for our big family vacation.
