Best value of our entire 16-night road trip, no contest — for what it costs, what you get, and above all where it is. We arrived late, around 21:30, and everything just worked. Excellent dinner at the restaurant, genuinely comfortable beds, spotlessly clean room, air conditioning that does its job, and complete quiet at night. The rooms are small, but they're well thought out and you don't need more. The real luxury here is the location: you wake up inside Death Valley. Five minutes on foot to the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, and after dark one of the darkest night skies in the United States right outside the door. No park entrance queues in the morning, no two-hour drive in from outside. The breakfast costs $12 per person and is worth every cent — the best breakfast we had on the whole trip, and we stayed in twelve different places. Important tip for summer visitors: The cold tap runs scalding hot — the pipes sit in ground that's been baked all day. Use the hot tap if you want water that isn't burning. Sounds absurd, but it's real, and you only make that mistake once.

The pool was out of service while we were there. Honestly, that happens, and I don't hold it against the place — just be aware it's not guaranteed. Rooms are compact too, worth knowing if you travel with a lot of luggage. One honest note for the sake of completeness: we found an opened water bottle under the bed, presumably rolled there by a previous guest and missed during cleaning. It shouldn't happen, but it does, and it takes nothing away from the overall impression of this place.

Leider war der Kühlschrank komplett vereist sodass er kaum bis gar nicht gekühlt hat. Die eismaschine musste bei uns deshalb aushelfen. Wir hatten kleine schwarze Käfer im Zimmer (keine Kakerlaken). Die Unterkunft sagte uns, dass sich das leider nicht verhinden lässt, was wir verstehen!
