The Esquilino area isnt exactly one of the top choices by many but the part where we stayed was on the fringes of that particular area hence it was not as touristy and more residential. There were restaurants nearby and 2 of which were just outside next to the building which had many patrons during the dinner hours. It was very easy to travel from where we stayed to the different tourist areas in Rome. Most were in a straight line from the building, 20 minute at the most. Also, the central train station, Termini was only a 15 minute walk away from the apartment. I always take rentals which are near the central train station for ease of travel. All in all, its a lovely place.
There was an elevator in the building but if somebody left the elevator door ajar lets say on the top floor, be prepared to walk up which was quite tiring going up the flight of steps. Also, somehow, despite being near the train station, taxis would rarely pass by, we had to wait up to 10 minutes just to flag down a taxi, they rarely pass. I thought it was quite weird.
