What should have been a relaxing family vacation became a stressful experience involving a broken bed, unusable amenitie

The location was convenient for our trip, and the house had the potential to be a very nice vacation rental. We also enjoyed having a private pool and enough space for our family. Unfortunately, the condition and maintenance of the property prevented us from fully enjoying many of the features that attracted us to the rental.

Unfortunately, there were numerous serious problems with this property. We paid $1,740.51 for our stay, and upon arrival the bed in the bedroom I was supposed to use was broken and unusable. I reported it immediately and provided photos. An air mattress was offered, but because of my knee and back limitations, that was not a suitable alternative. There were also damaged/broken appliances and countertops, a poorly maintained yard, a nonworking fire pit, a Jacuzzi/spa portion of the pool that did not function properly, broken golf clubs, and games/recreational items that were damaged or unusable. Several amenities that influenced our decision to book the property therefore could not be enjoyed as expected. Most concerning, the Miami-Dade County Vacation Rental Certificate of Use displayed inside the property showed an expiration date of November 20, 2024. We also found a Miami-Dade County Uniform Civil Violation Notice dated August 6, 2026, just three days before our August 9 arrival, citing “Failure to obtain a Certificate of Use for Vacation Rental.” During our stay, Miami-Dade County officers also came to the property and initially told us that we needed to leave. After we explained that we were vacationing with young children and had nowhere else to stay, they allowed us to remain. This was extremely upsetting and was certainly not something we expected to experience after paying $1,740.51 for a vacation rental. We were never informed about these circumstances before our arrival. We remained at the property because we had already traveled to Florida, had young children with us, had paid for the accommodation, and had nowhere else for our group to stay. I repeatedly attempted to resolve these concerns with the property management company. Compensation was discussed after our stay, but the matter remains unresolved despite multiple follow-ups and two separate calls to Booking.com Customer Service.
