From the moment I arrived at the Historical Mayor's House, I knew this place was something truly special. This is not just accommodation – it is a beautifully restored traditional mud-brick house that once belonged to Farafra's former mayor. Today, his grandson Abdullah lovingly preserves this unique home and welcomes guests with exceptional warmth.
Abdullah is far more than a guide. His knowledge of Farafra, its history and the White Desert makes every trip unforgettable. Together with his family, he creates an atmosphere where you immediately feel more like a friend than a visitor.
Farafra is much more than the gateway to the White Desert. Away from mass tourism, I discovered breathtaking landscapes, endless silence and unforgettable desert nights. Sitting around the campfire, enjoying delicious home-cooked Bedouin food and falling asleep beneath an incredible star-filled sky are memories I will always treasure.
The oasis itself is also worth exploring, with the Badr Museum, the White Desert Museum, the historic Qasr fortress, the traditional Bedouin house, beautiful oasis gardens and relaxing natural hot springs. Meeting Rami Badr and bathing in the hot springs under the moonlight were unforgettable highlights.
If you are looking for authentic Egypt rather than a tourist attraction, this is a true hidden gem. I left with wonderful memories and already know that I will return.

We loved the authenticity of this homestay style guesthouse which is a lovingly renovated historic building where the former Mayor of Farafra lived. It is close to the stunningly beautiful White Desert and the host can arrange a tour which includes camping under the stars - an unforgettable experience. Abdullah and his family embraced us into his home. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel part of the family. The traditional food and Bedouin tea were delicious. Abdullah told us about the local history and culture, took us to a Bedouin house and to local museums. This is ideal for adventurous travellers and backpackers who are looking for something special and unique that will touch your heart.

Wir hatten leider nur 2 Tage Zeit für den Aufenthalt im Mayor's Haus, aber es waren die beeindruckensten unser ganzen vierwöchigen Ägyptenreise. Abdullah ist eine Seele von Mensch und ein perfekter Gastgeber. So haben wir u.a. eine Safari und eine weitere Nacht unter freiem Sternenhimmel in der weißen Wüste, inkl. selbstgemachtem beduinischem Essen, mit ihm verbracht. Eindrucksvoll war auch der gemeinsame Besuch bei seiner Familie im 'neuen' Mayor's Haus mit dem riesigen alten Garten.
Die Kommunikation ist einfach, er spricht perfekt Englisch und auch Deutsch. Dadurch haben wir einen tiefen Einblick in die ägyptische Kultur von damals und heute erhalten.
Das Anwesen ist zentral im Ort gelegen mit einem schönen Blick über die Landschaft. Über einen einzigen Zugang kommt man ins Innere, dort stehen mehrere kleine restaurierte Häuser, die den Zimmern entsprechen. Es ist alles vorhanden, was man braucht und durch die traditionelle Bauweise aus Lehm herrscht dort ein wunderbares Raumklima. Man fühlt sich in der Zeit zurückversetzt und findet dort Ruhe und Erholung, echter Balsam für die Seele.
Fazit: Auch der weiteste Weg lohnt sich um hier einzukehren.
Anders als in anderen Unterkünften wird man hier als Gast behandelt und nicht abgezockt.

I stayed 3 dayes in Historical Mayor`s House. Abdullah and his brothers made my stay in their old renovated famelie home very comfortable. the atmoephere is fantastisk., the breackfast autentice and Abdullah can arrange other meals. The home is spotles clean. If you have a wish Abdulla will do everything to fulfill it. He can also arrange trip to the white desert or places of interesst in Farafra
