Scam Scam Scam-They tried to give us a totally different apartment to the one advertised & reserved

Scam Scam Scam - The apartment advertised was not available or does not exist and they tried to give us a totally different apartment in different building! We had a similar experience the night before with 'Apartment in the city center III', also in Tbilisi. Please feel free to read my review for that apartment also. So our experience started when I received a message from the host welcoming us etc.. Based on our experience I asked the following on the morning of our booking: 'We had a bad experience yesterday. We booked an apartment and they confirmed it was OK and available. Then when we arrived they tried to give us a totally different and much worse condition apartment. So we booked the hotel for 1 night instead. Can you please confirm that the property is exactly as per the photos and description in Booking.com and everything is working inside the apartment?' The reply was: 'Yes, of course everything is identical.' - This was not true. After that we just shared details about the time to meet at the apartment. Nothing else was mentioned by the host about the apartment. I have screenshots of our message exchange and my partner took photos of the other apartment they tried to scam us into. We were due to stay for 3 nights, but we did not!

A gentlemen met us at the address and asked us to follow him to a totally different building. We suddenly realised the scam was coming. A similar thing had happened to us the night before, so we knew what to expect. We were shown a totally different apartment at a different address that was nothing like the one that we had booked. We received every excuse possible in the nicest way, but when I showed him the text messages and confirmation that we would get the property as per the description and photos on booking.com, he ran out of excuses. I refused to give these con men a cent of our money regardless of what they had to offer as they lied, but we both gave him exactly what we thought about their behaviour and the con/ scam. I have since been advised by a different con man that if an apartment looks modern and too good to be true, it is usually photos from an apartment that has been fully updated by an ex pat/ foreigner to live in and not available to rent for short stays or even at all. Maybe true? A thug/ Gangster will use intimidation and threats to get what they want. A Con Man will be the nicest person, pretend to offer you something that benefits you and that somehow they are the victim. This was clearly the work of a Con Man/ Men. The best analogy I can give is like agreeing to buy a car that has 5000kms mileage and is 1 year old and then when you get there you are told that the car is not available but they have a bigger car for you that has 50,000kms mileage and is 10 years old! Who would want that? This happened to us 2 nights in a row from 2 different hosts. It was my first couple of nights in Georgia and it just left such a bad impression. They want you to think that they are doing you a favour by giving you a bigger property or in a nicer location etc. - They are not, they are just charging you the same price for something you did not book.

The location is amazing! You’re in the center of Tbilisi and can walk everywhere. The apartment was very comfortable and modern, and it offers excellent value for money.

Unfortunately, there was a misunderstanding and when they showed us the apartment, it wasn’t the one we had booked. It had fewer amenities, so we refused to stay since it wasn’t what we had reserved. He tried to convince us that it was fine, but when I told him I would cancel the booking and find another place to stay, he then offered us an even better apartment at the same price. It really was much better — the only downside was that there was a strong sewage smell coming from the bathroom drain.
