Visitors who want to experience the beauty of Japan really should include Tsuwano, sometimes referred to as 'Little Kyoto', on their itinerary. This clean and modern dormitory complex/community hub was the perfect place for our group of five to stay. Our friendly host Naoki met us at the station and for a small fee cooked a delicious Japanese curry dinner. The other guests - two Japanese couples - were friendly and everyone could enjoy the spacious communal kitchen and dining area, as well as clean separate bathrooms and toilets so the facilties don't feel 'shared'. And the largest (and cheapest) coin laundry I encountered on our trip with an outdoor drying area as well. The rooms are comfortable and large and I probably had the best night's sleep of my entire 2.5 week Japan holiday here. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer than one night - the town has a lot to offer including a shrine on a hill overlooking the town through which you pass through torii gates to reach (better than Kyoto's over-hyped Fushimi Inari shrine and NO CROWDS!), castle ruins and carp swimming in waterways in the town streets! Did I mention we were the only overseas tourists there? The accommodation and the town were a real highlight.
I have nothing negative to say, it was perfect.
