I have mixed feelings about this place. The good part of this stay was that the host was lovely and very communicative, provided recommendations and the apartment was clean and spotless. There is great AC in both bedrooms (and living room) which I always look for and we slept pretty comfortably. A pack and play was provided free of charge which I think should be standard but unfortunately isn’t, and it was definitely a plus. A high chair too! It’s very close to a parking lot and Corso Umberto.
I can’t say that the apt didn’t match the photos, I guess in real life it was just more worn down and quirky than expected. If you do stay here definitely go to Zuccaro Pizzeria and when eating elsewhere, walk right past Porto Catania for other restaurants. La Pignolata cannoli in that direction is also great!
This doesn’t seem like a 1000sq ft (95m) apartment. It didn’t feel very spacious, but maybe I’m wrong. There are some odds and ends sticking out like a decorative piece on the tv console and matching sideboard. My son tripped over this and it hurts. Not sure why they have bulky furniture eating up space.
The decor is interesting but a little hard on the eyes since there’s no cohesive look between the rooms. I hate to say it and offend the host but it’s tacky looking.
The dishwasher and oven were new so I’m sure they’re focused on making improvements, but kitchen needs a microwave. Some tiles on the floor were loose or off. The apt seems freshly painted and but is in need of some more TLC and new decor.
The shower is small, if you have been on a cruise ship it is similar in size. My husband noticed that the doorway to the kitchen is pretty low. We’re small people so this was totally fine, but if you’re like 6’ (1.8m) or a bigger person that doorway and shower might be uncomfortable.
I’d say what irked me though is that I didn’t realize how many stairs there’d be. There were I believe 36 steps from the main street and I didn’t know this would be the case. I’m sure this is obvious to others since most of Taormina involves stairs and hills. (And I will say that walking around I was relieved that there weren’t even more stairs than this, but I think it’s still worth mentioning.) I didn’t book many other accommodations because they explicitly mentioned stairs or pictured it. I did book this over other rentals that involved lots of steps and I think I got more with this one.
Inside the apartment there is also an internal staircase. I see the ledge by the stairs in a photo but it’s really not clear what that is until you arrive. Luckily my children aren’t adventurous but I could imagine a child falling down the stairs or walking across the ledge behind the sofa to jump or play when unsupervised and getting injured. So why not show a clear photo of this?
