A High-Endurance Getaway at "Midgie Land"
The area was absolutely breathtaking. Dunoon was a 35 minute drive and we enjoyed the time there.
We have affectionately renamed this site "Midgie Land," though the local insect population was only part of the adventure.
The Indoor Wildlife & Hygiene
The caravan itself had clearly skipped a few rounds with a mop, but the real hosts were the bedbugs. Present in every bedroom and thoroughly claiming the sofa bed as their own, they ensured sleep was off the menu for all three nights.
The Great Outdoors (Enter at Your Own Risk)
By late afternoon, the air belongs entirely to an army of midgies. We deployed every spray, potion, and known repellent to no avail; these locals are utterly fearless and forced us into an early indoor retreat every single day.
Management & Park Dynamics
To be entirely fair, the caretakers—a lovely lady and gentleman—are genuinely pleasant and clearly doing their best against insurmountable odds. However, nighttime rule enforcement followed a rather peculiar logic:
The "Whispering" Violation: On night one, we accidentally ran 10 minutes past the 11:00 PM curfew while finishing dinner in hushed tones, only to be sternly reminded at 11:35 PM about the virtue of absolute silence.
The Real Concerts: Meanwhile, actual chaos seemed immune to site rules. One night featured a couple holding an uninhibited, all-night shouting match next door, and our final night was soundtracked by a lively choir of about a dozen Indian lads singing well into the sunrise.
Full marks to the caretakers for their warm intentions, but between the sleepless nights, relentless pests, and theatrical nighttime acoustics, it was quite an endurance test.
