Old Soma Residence is close to all the main attractions, yet it still feels peaceful and secluded. Staying in a genuine historic building was a truly special experience, while the house itself had all the modern comforts and amenities I needed

Location and history - the soma families history is Hakodate. The tour of the home is exceptional and the rooms and next door (new build). It’s smack bang in the historical quarters so u can walk to all key tourists destinations and cafes. I like the integration of the new build and the Japanese thematic within.
Loses a point for no car park. If u have a car then the parking next door is a tourist trap at 600 jpy per hour during the day. U can park at other public car parks but having to walk up the steep hill with suitcases etc doesn’t work - so for 3 days cost me $150 in car park. There is no TV I reckon they should have a TV in the lounge. Also only one pillow per bed - didn’t suit me so I had to buy another one - my suggestion is provide extra pillows and also a sheet as the doona was too hot for me
