We arrived late, retrieved the key from the lock box, inserted the key into the door knob, and to our shock, the key broke off as we turned it. I thought we might have to camp outside the property as it was closed to midnight.
Thankfully the host got back to us and arranged an alternative accommodation. He offered to get us a taxi, made sure we had a place to stay, and offered to cover the expense of the taxi ride.
It was an unfortunate incident with the broken key, but I fully commend the host for his professionalism and kindness. I would book with him again if I were to return to Pisa.

The location was perfect - walkable from the trainstation and more importantly only a 10 minute walk to the airport, making this a very convenient overnight stay before catching a morning flight.
There is a supermarket on the next block, so we didn’t have to find a restaurant either.
The fact that the apartment has two bathrooms (one of them being en-suite) was a great bonus.
(our hearts sank initially when we saw the scaffolding to the right of the entrance door, but the work noise was minimal)
