The room was neat and very comfortable and the kitchen and lounge were very nice places to cook and hang around on a rainy day. The kitchen is more than well equipped and you can clearly see yourself staying there for a long time and making yourself cosy.
The main issue is the noise. The walls are quite thin and it is literally as if you were staying with the other guests, who are not all very considerate about noise early in the morning and late at night. We might have been particularly unlucky but we had a neighbour who whistled at all hours and held very animated phone calls at 7am. We told him on 2 occasions but he was just not very mindful.
I think a few signs in the corridor CLEARLY reminding people to keep quiet after hours and early would do the trick. Apart from that it is a very nice place to stay.

Absolutely sensational! A peaceful and tranquil place to stay! The room was super clean tidy and comfortable! The wardrobe was fab and I had heaps of room to spread out. The tv was great with lots of channels after a day of exploring. I had zero issues finding the place and there was lots of parking. Great shower pressure and the bathroom was spotless! Room was warm and super comfortable for my five nights. The kitchen is well stocked and absolutely Devine. There was laundry facilities which was a total bonus! The grounds and outdoor space was lush and green and full of birdsong just heaven! Around 30 mins driving to Kirkwall and what a beautiful drive! Absolutely spectacular place to stay I would highly recommend it! Heather the host was lovely friendly and super communicative. I had an absolutely wonderful stay and would certainly stay again!

Great facilities, comfortable lounge with wood burning stove, amazing high pressure shower. It is not as far from public transport as it seems and the walk is very pleasant, as long as you are travelling with a backpack. I didn't try the path from Quoyloo, which seems shorter, but from Skara Brae is very straight forward if you start the walk from St Peter's Kirk, a bit up the road from Skara Brae (bus X1). Just take the road at your right after passing the church, leading to a working farm. At the farm, the road turns right again. Walk up this road for a few minutes until you find a wide tractor track at your left that seems to go in a straight line forever. Walk up that track until you find a paved road again. At your left you'll see a "Housegarth" sign. Facing the sign, walk up the road to the right and you'll see a bright white house. That's Housegarth.
The bright white light from the corridor seems to go on and off randomly and filters under the bedroom doors.

Beautiful views, great location with short drives to main attractions, quiet, newly appointed rooms so everything was clean and fresh, comfy bed. There is a big communal kitchen with a very long kitchen table adjoining a good sized living room so would be suitable for families travelling together or groups of friends. Our host, Heather, was friendly and helpful.
Difficult to find. Sat nav takes you to someone else’s home and they are a bit sick of people stopping and knocking their door. The road Housegarth is actually on is signposted so look for that.
