Let me begin by saying that Booking.com does not have the customers best interests, well-being, nor safety in mind.
We landed in Rome on Monday July 20th, 2025 and checked into our apartment which we booked through Booking.com. As soon as we walked into the apartment we realized it was just as hot in the apartment, if not hotter, than it was outside. The apartment had a ductless air unit over the front door. There was no other cooling methods through the apartment except a fan in the back bedroom. We turned on the unit and waited to cool down the house. While we waited, I decided to shower. I turned on the shower in what would’ve been our bedroom when the shower began to over flow and flood the bathroom. Turns out the shower drain was clogged. I checked the shower in the other room which also had a clogged drain so I called the owner. She said she would send over a plumber. While we waited we began to notice things that were unsettling. There were clothes in the dryer, that was going when we arrived. We noticed black mold in the ceiling of the living room. The towels left on our bed were damp and a very dirty towel was left hanging on the oven in the kitchen. Also, there were no curtains covering the window in the bedroom we would’ve been staying in. The neighbors from the second floor had a clear view of the bed/bed room which left no privacy for changing. The “plumbers”, the owner and her daughter, arrived about 15 minutes later. The owner, with her shoes on, stepped into the showers and pulled chunks of hair out of both drains. She didn’t bother cleaning the showers after that. After a while of running the AC, the only room to cool down was the living room. We expressed our concern regarding the only room to cool down was the living room and how uncomfortable it would be sleeping in the bedrooms due to the heat and humidity. We asked for a refund. To which the owner replied, “This is impossible. You can sleep on the couch it’s a pull out”.
