• The property itself is beautiful. The landscaping and public areas are very well designed, and there is definitely a “wow” effect when you first arrive.
• The staff were very nice and genuinely tried to help. We especially appreciated the way the manager handled our complaint about the pool situation. She listened to our concerns and offered us a complimentary taxi to the pier as a gesture of goodwill, which was thoughtful and appreciated.
• The breakfast and restaurant food are good. The menu isn’t Thai, which was actually refreshing after travelling around Thailand for a while and gave us a welcome chance to eat something different.
We paid a lot for our stay here — significantly more than the average price on the island — and unfortunately felt that what we received didn’t match the price.
• The rooms are tiny. Yes, technically we could have checked the room size beforehand, but after travelling around Thailand, where even much cheaper hotels tend to have spacious rooms, it honestly never occurred to us that this would be an issue.
• The room feels more like a student dorm or hostel than an expensive hotel. No kettle, no hairdryer, no glasses, one towel and one pillow per person. There’s barely anywhere to put your luggage, nowhere sensible to leave your toothbrush, and not even a glass to drink water from. Maybe some of these things are available upon request, but at this price point, we didn’t expect to have to request basic room amenities one by one.
• Even the “desk” isn’t really usable as a desk. There’s a fridge underneath it, leaving no actual space to sit with the chair. In practice, the chair became our luggage stand — which was useful, since there wasn’t really anywhere else to put our suitcase.
• The bed was very uncomfortable for us. Both the mattress and pillows have a cheap, spongy feel, and the synthetic bedding didn’t help.
• Privacy is a major issue. The rooms opposite are extremely close, so unless you close the blackout curtains completely, people can easily see into your room — and you can see straight into theirs. You can even hear conversations from the rooms across. So your choice is basically no privacy or sitting in a tiny, dark room with the curtains shut.
• The pool can get frustrating for hotel guests. The hotel also accepts day visitors, and during our stay there were times when finding an available sunbed was difficult. We raised this with the manager, who took our complaint seriously and offered us a complimentary taxi to the pier as a gesture of goodwill, which we appreciated.
• The bathroom smells damp and poorly ventilated.
